thanks for this video . the documentation is missing a lot of key things like how to add ceilings and its really great you have a video like this to really walk through it. thanks so much im using unreal but the plugin is basically the same so it applies here too!

Thank you. I really appreciate the comment. I still use DA alot, it's a fantastic tool. One of the best assets of my (far too large) collection. I believe you will have alot of fun with it. Show us your results (links to videos, game releases etc. are welcome on this channel - just don't get spammy ;-)

It is, I'm loving it. As always there are limitations, but the extensibility needed is there. I'm not using any of it yet but last night I was reading the manual and API docs so I can figure out how to do what I'm after. The publisher has some big plans too. In fact if they deliver on what they are promising I may not have to write any code :-)

great stuff, did you try other systems?

I didn't. I may give DunGen a try in the future and Procedural Dungeon Toolkit (which I see you have a Dev Interview with at kzitem.info/news/bejne/pJ9suoqdf6qfnm0 ). I chose Dungeon Architect because it appears way more flexible, For example I have a city level too (should do a video on that).

Hi. there. Great Review !! One question, please, Did you try it in a URP/ VR project? Thanks a lot
@WizardsCode

I have not, but Dungeon Architect is not an art asset and thus it is hard to think of a situation in which it would be problematic. The art assets I use in this video will auto convert to URP and are pretty lightweight so shouldn't be problematic for VR, though obviously it depends what you do with them.

Do you know if it’s possible to get DA working in-game? So my players can procedurally generate their own levels on the fly.
@WizardsCode

It depends what you mean by "players generate their own levels on the fly". DA does support runtime generation and that can be controlled by the player through the use of seeds. However, actually enabling players to control the generation rules would be fairly complex (possible with deep code).

me watching this video: Oh that seems awfully great, I wonder where I can get it so I can- *the thing is 150 dollars* me: *wondering why you could get 2 AAA games and a ton of other stuff for that price and people get it* bit pricy innit?
@WizardsCode
3 жыл бұрын
Well it's often in sales, so if you really want it you can get it for significantly less than $149 if you wait. However, even in a sale price it is certainly out of the reach of many. As for why it's the cost of 2 AAA games, it's simply economics. AAA games are purchased by millions of people, the cost of development is spread across all of them. Assets like these, however, sell hundreds of units, sometimes thousands or maybe even tens of thousands. Even at the highest number of sales revenue from them is low yet the time that goes into making them is high. Then there is the fact that you buy a game and play it. You get entertainment but you will never make that money back. Whereas an asset like this is a tool with which you make something to sell. When you sell it the author gets nothing, while you take the profits from any success (of course success is hard). You can still create your game without a tool like this. You can code it yourself and pay in time instead of cash. In this scenario use the video as a design guide for what you need to build. It's all about what works for you. Pay with your time developing your own tool that fits your needs perfectly or pay with cash and make your needs match a tool like this. I can buy a small house in some areas for less than the price of the machinery needed to build the house. Or I could build a small house by working hard and using hand tools. This is not unique to the tools used to make games. All that said, if you are a hobbyist and want to learn how to do this yourself try this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/05yByaSmcYd1hGU

@@WizardsCode Well as I didn't expect you to respond in such detail, and my assumption of 2 AAA games was purely speculation I will say that I just want to simply make an procedural generated thing that can go on forever. Thank you for responding and giving me information.
@WizardsCode

No worries. I love to engage with folks and understand their thinking. It's educational. If you want to do endless procedural terrain (as opposed to dungeons) you can use MapMagic - that base generation package is free (though adding trees and other objecvts requires a paid addon): kzitem.info/news/bejne/jm-NsKVtjIOKooI If you really want dungeons then the link above is a pretty good approach and could be readily adapted to endless runtime generation. Good luck.

I want to know how you can use Dungeon Architect for spawning your enemy prefab zombies when using the procedural generation flavor. Thanks
@WizardsCode
3 жыл бұрын
This is covered in the video. You can see two examples of Zombie spawners in the flow graph at at 01:50. One use the marker "Zombies", the other uses "Zombie Torchberer". Then you need to add these markers into the theme, this is shown at 23:28.

How do you control the spacing in the floor tiles. Every second tile is missing when I add a floor tile
@WizardsCode
3 жыл бұрын
On the `Grid Flow Dungeon Config` component there is a `Grid Size` setting. If you seem to be skipping every second tile you need to halve the x and z values. You can see the component at 0:35 (a few parameters below where I am working at that point in the video).

@@WizardsCode Thanks for the response, I find when I follow your demo with the kit, I don't get the same results. Thanks for pointing out the grid, but I find for example the walls do not line up as yours do. Are you aware of any other settings?
