Great tutoriual! Two thoughts: 1) Always best to convert your layers to smart objects. And 2) for adding noise, a more versatile way to do that is to go to Layer > New Layer, change the blend mode to "overlay" in the modal and check "Fill with Overlay-neutral color". From there, convert that new layer to a smart object, make sure it's the top layer, and apply that same amount of gausian monochromatic noise from the filter menu. This gives you a universal control for the whole image on one layer and, since it's a smart object, means you can punch it up or dial it down until you get the results you're after.

True, but if all your layers are smart objects, there's no harm in adding the noise to each individual layer. I think his reason for adding the tiny amount of noise to the individual layers is that it requires less noticeable noise to reduce the banding when done in this way. From my personal experience it seems to require more when the noise is added as a layer on top of everything, though I'm generally working in 8bit, so it might be different in 16bit.

How can I simply paint an entire screen a single color? I'm new to Photoshop. I've watched a couple hours worth of tutorials and still haven't seen anyone explain what I'm trying to do. The paintbrushes I have are too small and it'd take me an hour to scribble all over the white page until it all was filled in with yellow, for instance. Any larger brushes I've found immediately delete as soon as I unclick the mouse. Thanks

Its more to do with what the image means. This image doesn't mean much of anything, but usually you can find meaning in art that visually looks like that in museams. Its hard to explain, but I do get why many people see it like laziness or uncreativity.

perhaps you can help me with a project. I need to take a still image and add it to a music video, but, I need to make the image transition through the color spectrum using the saturation type tools so it smoothly moves from one color to the next. I have tried looking for some tutorials but cant seem to find a decent one. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
