I recently made the transition to Blender too! The big changes and overhaul they did with 2.8 did it, not to mention the sheer speed of development is incredible! Awesome that you made the switch

LOL. "all you zbrush UI haters, in your face" I appreciate that sooooo much. I too struggled with that little button. Turns out you can press the "n" key to toggle it. I found that super helpful. :) Thank you for this. I learned a lot and will be trying this with my sculpts.

I literally wrote the code that draws that tiny arrow sorry it was hard to find haha. There was some discussion on whether to have it out by default, and the hotkey people won.

That's a nice tutorial there. But instead of adding the HDRI map manually, you can add it in the world tab. You go to environment texture and you're done.

Never thought I'd see the day that you would be making Blender tutorials and even changing your studio pipeline to use it! I would like to eventually make that full switch too, how are you finding the transition and any tips for someone coming from years of Maya hotkeys embedded in the brain haha?

@@RyanKingslienVertexSchool One more question actually, why is it that you have to create a texture coordinate and mapping node every time just to read a noise texture? Is this the equivalent for when Maya creates a 'place2Dtexture' before a Maya noise node? I'm guessing surely is there an add on or something that would automate this process for us in Blender? Thank you!
@iochimura
3 жыл бұрын
@@peterhargan967 You can use the Node Wrangler Add-On to create those nodes with a Shortcut, Ctrl+T I believe is the shortcut but don't quote me on that.... I also think that if you don't create a texture coordinate and mapping node blender uses UVs as the default...
@Alan_Mariscal
3 жыл бұрын
Ctrl + Shift + LMB connects the node directly to output for preview, instead of manually connecting it, but you have to do the same to get to the full material preview again by doing the same thing but on the main BSDF node :) (That's with the Node wrangler add on enabled, not sure if it is on by default) And you can also set up the lights by "entering" into them just like with the camera, that blew me away the first time, gone are the days of dragging on x,y,z. Great videos!
@RyanKingslienVertexSchool

Thanks for the tip Alan! I will try that. I have Add on off for beginners. I know it might drive more experienced users crazy to see me keeping doing it and it drives me crazy but i have a soft spot for beginners who haven't learned the hotkeys and add ons. Even when i knew how to script my own interfaces in ZBrush I still kept it simple for this reason. I seriously need to learn that "entering" thing...

Well, I have just wrote a nicely worded long comment on how I'm happy Ryan recognizes Blender, and youtube decided to delete it. So, second attempt. :) I also find it admirable that he is actually REPLYING youtube comments since I suppose he is a very busy person knowing his history by watching some of his old Gnomon tuts and even owning some of his old Zbrushworkshop and UArtsy courses. Anyway, it's a nice move and it's good to see him keeping his youtube channel alive again. Btw I have just ended up here by trying to unsuccessfully log on to my UArtsy account after years of inactivity, then went through the GAI link to Vertex School. I'm not even sure my old account got transferred to this new place but wanted to mention that this new concept seems like a good one after all those years of searching for the right platform.

Yeah, zero interest in learning something new myself. Autodesk has been incredibly unhelpful for my students though. Not willing to subject them to the autodesk tax anymore. After all, most of the feature sets are over a decade old at this point. Can always train somebody on the Maya specifics in a month or so once they have grasped the 3-D feature set.

setting render samples to 500 is not a good idea if you are dealing with a mil polygons, remember blender is not zbrush no other software can handle polycount like zbrush. Also 500 is way too high if you are just doing a clay render. 200 is probably enough you only need high samples when you are dealing with caustics/glass or sss so 200 should be fine :)

fair enough. You can always just download the file but knowing the "how" is what puts you in power. Just downloading the file is temporary. These skills have taken me many places and given me many opportunities. I hope they can do the same for you.
