A great tutorial. And it's good to see a pro using Affinity Photo. This is a much underrated editor, as good in my opinion as Photoshop, and incredible value.

I copied the official sample photo my government (Germany) presented. When I do passport work with the _free_ GIMP software, I do an overlay with a partly (50%) transparent passport sample, which I adapt in size. Afterwords, I put all in a template I calculated exactly in terms of pixel dimensions. *** yes, it is good advice to leave about 2mm more on each side! I copy everything (up to 6 photos) in one 100mm X 150mm (4''x6'') photo --> the authorities in my town have tools to cut the things out, here the extra 2mm come in handy. I did this several times for friends, for my wife, son, myself. No rejections yet! *** little kids of 4 years or under don't match with the official sample, I think head proportions are different, but here, no one cares, luckily.

Great points - the proportions of children are different and don’t fit the templates exactly, but I’ve never had one rejected either.

Hi , thanks for the quick tutorial. For the digital upload can i create a new file with 2 by 2 inches dimension, copy the photo that was created ( as per your video ), and save it ?

I need to check, but I think you can create a 2x2" canvas, then print a "n by n" to get multiple images on one page.

Hi Vijay - cropping works a bit differently between Affinity Designer and Photo, but you don't really need to crop at all. Just create a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool (to the size you need), and nest your template and photo into the rectangle object in the layers panel. Simply position and size it from there.
