So sorry to read of Archer's pre-mature death. Such an ingenious, talented and modest man. Sadly missed, but not fogotten.

he is one of my heroes ... international karate on the c64 back in mid 80s was the game which made me realize i needed to get into programming. i was maybe 9 or 10 years old. a few years later i discovered a game - whirlwind snooker on the amiga 500. i didnt know anything about snooker back then. i didnt even know it was a real sport. but what i immediately recognized was the name of the programmer: archer maclean. i was so excited, because it was the same guy who made IK. again couple years later I randomly turned on TV and saw Snooker for the very first time ever in my life being played in Reallife. I couldn't believe it. It wasn't just a computer game. this was a legit sport for real! Years later I joined a Snooker Club.... So Archer MacLean is reponsible for 2 of my biggest passions in life. computer+programming and snooker ....

IK+ on the Amiga was one of THE best games. It was so polished, the animation, the graphics, the sheer gameplay was outstanding. The forerunner to Tekken, VF, Street Fighter, etc etc.

Totally agree! I was really surprised when the Amigos podcast gave it a pretty luke-warm review!

Glad I got his signature with the new zzap issues... I got a glass framed ik+ screen with his signature on glass, but its hard to read, so he went back and signed a card with IK on it. So i kind of have 2 signatures from him.

Im very emotional and sad. RIP my friend.

RIP Archer. As a proud Atarian back in the day, it was your efforts that impressed me the most. Geoff Brown and Mark Cale may have been dicks, but your reputation was cemented and eventually got your rewards x

Mark Cale is a rather unpleasant individual, never wants to talk about unreleased stuff unless he can profit from it, lies about Atari ST Myth coming out, blames Activision for the awful Dominator and far worse.

Archer was a game programming genius. He did things on the early home micros that were only possible on far superior arcade hardware. Hearing him talk about the way he traced over people on the TV screen using cellophane is remarkable. What a hugely creative, inventive, and talented chap and what an impressive portfolio of games he left behind him.

I played IK+ quite a bit on the Amiga, and also loved The Way of the Exploding Fist on the C64. "Chop 'N Drop"? I can't remember ever hearing anyone call it that, even Americans on the Internet. I can't understand why they would change the proper name to such a stupid one.

Hmm, Marathon to Snickers, Treets to M&M's, the Americans have form in messing around with things they should leave well alone.
