It's years later and I have Open Office 4. The instructions have not changed for this. Everything is the same!!!! Thank you for the easy follow along step by step on how to make my labels. I uses the free Avery label program but it's got SO many bugs in it that even free wasn't worth it. Thanks again.

I do find it amazing that my video is still helping so many after 7 years. OpenOffice has declined in popularity over recent years, and updates are rare. I still occasionally recommend it to customers, but don't use it much myself anymore. I'm glad that my video was able to help you. Thank you for the comment. :)

Open Office Writer will not let me not choose any database (as in, I would like to keep that field blank). It forces me to choose from a list of databases. Due to this, when trying to create a page of blank labels, it will let me type in the first label box, but mark all other boxes as "read only." If I try to type in any box other than the first one, I get the message: "Readonly content cannot be changed. No modifications will be accepted." How do I create a page of labels that are all different from each other?

Thank you sir. That was very informative. I am using Avery ink jet return address labels to type my new business address to cover my old address on my business cards (white background) and it looks great! Now I just have to see if my husband agrees with me, to continue sticking them onto the business cards... Thank you.

How do I create custom sized labels (to be printed on a full-sheet label and cut manually)? And further, to have my custom design of the label (text, graphics, etc.) automatically repeat in all of the labels without having to manually paste it dozens of times? The first option in the "Type" box (no matter which "Brand" is chosen) is "[User]" with an apparently unchangeable size/layout of '3.94" x 3.94" (1 x 1)'.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. When starting the new label wizard. If there is not an Avery Size label that matches your needs, there is an options for [User] at the top of the list. Choose this. Then click the "Format" tab along the top. This is the area you can define the label size, number of columns, rows, spacing, etc. These settings will remain under the [User] label choice until you change it again, so you can easily return to it later if needed. Next, click the "Options" tab. Check the box for "Synchronize contents". This box will place a "Synchronize" button on your document that will allow you to apply all of your formatting you create in the FIRST label to then be applied to ALL labels. I hope this helps.

Hi Joey excellent video tutorial on how to create your own labels in open office; it was very helpful to me; but one query I have can you do/create price tags using this technique; just asking.Look forward to your response A.S.A.P! NB: My Finally Question is Does they make the columns automatically when creating labels or do you have to add the amount of columns you want; just confirming & tafs!
@PCsetupHelps
9 жыл бұрын
Kimberley Gamble I suppose it would depend on the price tags you need. You can get various sizes of labels, including price tags. Using this instruction is more for a single page of labels, either same or different. So if that is all you need, then it should work fine. However, if you need to do multiple pages of labels, possibly different prices and descriptions. Then this would be better solved using a "mail merge". This would allow you to create a Spredsheet of tag descriptions and then merge them into a single label page. The software would then create as many pages as needed to complete the label. I'm afraid I don't have a tutorial video for that, but if you like, I can get you some links to some good instructions. I hope I've been able to help. Please let me know if there is anything more I can do. :)

Kimberley Gamble I have never tried the Android version of OpenOffice. So I'm afraid I am not certain what to expect. Often App versions of a program will have limited functionality compared to their PC version. So I would not be surprised if it was not able to do labels this same way. IF it does have it, and you need to print to an HP ePrint printer, then there should be a "print" function in the menu. OR, you would tap the Share icon and choose the HP ePrint App as the device you wish to share it with. Sorry I can't be more help with this question.

When the sheet of labels is created, look for a button that says "Synchronize Labels". It is usually a long rectangle button, and may appear as a floating Window around the upper left corner below the toolbars. If you see this button, then you can make all the changes you want to the first label. After the label looks correct, click the "Synchronize Labels" button. It will apply the same changes to every label. NOTE: This applies to creating a page of the same label. If each label is different text, then you will need to edit each label.

I'm sorry I missed your post. Maybe this will help you for next Christmas. When you have your label sheet open, you should be able to add a picture, or clip art, using any saved image on your computer. Have your cursor in the first label where you would like to place the image. Click on "Insert" then "Picture" and "From File". You may then choose the image file you want from your saved files. When the file inserts, you will be able to resize the image, and drag it to the desired placement within the label. Don't forget to change the word wrap so that your text fits properly around it. Do this by right clicking on the image, then "Wrap", and choose the wrap method that creates the desired effect. If you used the feature to synchronize contents for the labels as I described in my video description, then you can click the "Synchronize Labels" button to duplicate the image to all of your labels.

How do I do them so that they print in alphabet order?
@PCsetupHelps
6 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the long delay. This video is several years old, and I don't keep a watch on its comments like I used to. I imagine I'm too late to help you now, but I wanted to reply anyway. I am not aware of a way to sort the labels when creating them this way.. This would be best accomplished by using a database, or spreadsheet file. Using a Mail Merge feature you can take another file, such as a spreadsheet, and merge it in to a label or letter. The spreadsheet would have the tool allowing you to sort your information in alphabetic order before merging. It is not a difficult process, but it does involve several steps. Plus, it helps to have some basic skills in a spreadsheet or database program. I've had several requests for a video instructing how to create labels using a Mail Merge. I may create one soon, so keep watch on my channel. Thanks.

Janice Macak a quick Google search reveals a number of sites offering templates and design options that might help. If you want a specific design, then it would likely require creating a custom label template. Do you have a label design that you wish to use? I'm happy to help if I can.

I don't really have a design label in my. I have a template, but don't really know how to create a label. I have a bad memory so it's had for me to watch a video and remember how to do it. What I really need is written instructions. Do you have any suggestions?
@PCsetupHelps
7 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. I could provide written instructions to creating basic labels, as given in the video. However, since there is not a predesigned label option to use for your label type, I doubt that would help you. If you obtained a label template from a 3rd party, they may have a downloadable file that would add the required template into OpenOffice for you. It would generally include any instructions needed to install/open the file in OpenOffice. If you have a label design that you need to create your own label template to fit, you can follow the same instructions to create labels, but instead of choosing a label type click the "Format" tab. (Steps would be to open the OpenOffice Writer program, Click File, New, Label. Then click the "Format" tab.) It will then display various measurements required to create a custom sized label. Some websites that offer custom templates for labels will provide you with the measurements to fill in this information. If not, then you may need to resort to using a ruler to measure them out. When creating labels this way, I always print out the first sheet on plain paper and overlay it with my Label to see if the text is aligning with the label where I want it. Then print on the label sheets when ready. I don't know if that helps you much. When working with custom labels there are so many options out there. If you downloaded a label design/template from a website, hopefully they have the measurements for you too. This would save you a bit of measuring and guess work.

@PCsetupHelps
6 жыл бұрын
To draw a line, make sure that the Drawing toolbar is visible. Click "View" from the menu bar, then move to "Toolbars". You will see a list of toolbars. If you do not see a check mark next to "Drawing", then click on it to select it. Next, look at your visible toolbars for the drawing tools. Mine appeared in the lower left corner of the OpenOffice window, but it can be moved to different locations. It will have several buttons including a line tool, square, elliptical, freehand, etc... You can then select the Line tool button, and draw the line you want in your label. (Note: If you also have the Properties menu open, then when you select the line tool you will be able to customize its color and width. If you have already drawn the line, then use the arrow tool in the Drawing toolbar, and select the line. Then Right click the line, and click "Line" in the alt menu that appears. You will be given a Line Window with the available options.)

Sorry your having trouble. You are correct that my instructions do not apply in your situation. Using a label printer is different than the average person using an inkjet or laser printer with sheet fed labels. I'm not familiar with your exact label printer and the settings you might need. As you likely already know, you must have the correct drivers installed for your label printer. In OpenOffice when setting up your labels you will need to choose "Continuous" as the Format, then select the brand and label type for your machine. Some label makers might also require additional settings within the printer driver to correct print issues when the label might be printing sidways, or outside of the label. A quick search about your model label maker indicates that Zebra made that machine specifically for UPS, and Zebra does not offer software or support. There might be some 3rd party software available that might work for the machine. Sorry I can't offer you anything more specific, but I hope that I have been able to at least give you some other ideas to find a solution. Good luck in your search.
