Quick question how do you heat your tanks?
@dwsdarius
6 жыл бұрын
This tank doesn't get heated being native...but the rest of my tanks have heaters...mostly aquatop brand. I wanted to heat the entire basement instead of individual tank heaters, but my cooler water fish like these and the tank next door wouldn't like that
@laurit3116

I’m building a small fish room now. I’ve decided to heat the tanks individually because I don’t want the room it’s self to be too hot. How do you like the Aquatop heaters compared to Fluval and Eheim, etc?

Wow,this is a terrific video! Do you bring in your koi fish inside as well? I might have missed it, but I'll definitely look for it! I caught the one where you bring your cichlids inside. You are very great at making these videos, and of course, fish keeping!🐠😀

Thank you...no I leave my koi out and they hibernate through the winter...freezings temps, no eating, very little moving for anywhere between 3-5 months (as long as temps are under 50°F). My main pond goes 4ft under ground so that's why it never freezes completely like this above ground pond

Interesting tank, I'm not sure why more hobbists don't keep North American native fish. They are just as beautiful as many C. and S. American species. Perhaps it's because most pet stores don't sell them, could be state laws banning some. Suggestion, add some fresh water clams or crayfish. I grew up in NE PA and would find clams often in the streams. They were shaped like muscles and had black shells.
@dwsdarius

Thanks, yes we have crayfish and trapdoor snails every where, clams are a bit harder to find but they'll be great additions

I would like to have some native fish but our state laws (Idaho) are confusing/restrictive. Concerns around diseases transferring from kept fish to the wild population.
@PajamaPantsMan

state laws are pretty strict. also any movement of live fish from lakes are prohibited in california. only north american fish i know of that i can obtain would be the Florida Flag Fish.
