My first "how this pf2 character building works?" character was a giant instinct goblin barbarian with high str and second highest was charisma. The only tactical character building mistake I saw was to let the cleric with a -1 on char. Because you calculate your daily free heal spells based on those. Other than that, both characters were perfectly cool and awesome!
@ryuteki
Жыл бұрын
Neither of their free background feats are going to be particularly useful, either. It's not a mistake, per se, but it is a missed opportunity. The cleric will feel that more keenly than the rogue, who gets a skill feat every level - the cleric would have probably been a lot happier with Field Medic, esp. given the low charisma issue for daily heals.

My first two characters (I made them at the same time) for pathfinder 2e was a Gnome Alchemist & a human monk. I've always been dissapointed by 5e's version of the Alchemist, so it was a pleasure to really dive into the crafting system of 2e with a class dedicated to it. I will admit that it turned out to not be my style in the end, but it felt intuitive enough to feel like it did the character justice compared to the Alchemist Artificer from 5e. The monk was a completely different story. I only really use 2 classes in pathfinder now, and both of those are the monk (strength based & dex based), I've always been a big fan of MMA & Pro Wrestling and the 2e system does a much better job representing the fisticuffs/grappler playstyle I always wanted for the monk.

Yeah his wisdom isn't going to be great, but having a backup healer is useful and the opportunity cost for a rogue is so low. Sometimes the cleric is the one who needs to be Stabilized. Its important to remember that the number of devine font spell slots you get is 1 + your CHR mod. With a -1 mod, you have zero devine font spell slots for the Heal spell. A good way to fix this is to either swap the +1 you put into Dex into Chr instead, and if you want more than 1 devine font spell slot to start the game, use the two free ancestry stat boost option and take STR and WIS and start the game with a lower Con (the 1 hp per level you will miss out on wont matter much early and you can take Toughness gen feat at lvl 3 to make up for it).

I always use the two boosts variant because not all ability flaws are equal. Elves (and, I believe, kobolds) are royally screwed over in PF 2E if using the ability flaw option because their ability flaw is CON. If you're playing, say, a goblin, you can take the hit on WIS and just avoid WIS-dependent classes and except for some skills and the odd Will save, you'll be fine. This means you get to put your free boost wherever you like. If you're playing an elf, you do not have the luxury of doing that because CON is vital for everyone unless you have a death wish. An elf will almost certainly end up putting the 'free' boost on CON so it at least doesn't get a negative modifier, so effectively, playing an elf means paying a boost tax.

Just found this. Very interesting. I haven't been using Demiplane (Herolab instead) but now I'll take another look. Two things for Kelly: Harnessed Shield? You're not jousting, are you? I'd have gone with Steel Shield and saved 3 gold. Also, everybody should have an adventurer's pack. 🙂

I'm digging these Pathfinder videos. It's a system I've been wanting to try for a while, being almost solely 5e for years. Question though: how hard would it be to shift a Drakkenheim campaign into a P2e game? I want to run Drakkenheim with my friends soon and would love to also be able to do Pathfinder with it if that's possible.

I’d be curious how you like building characters as you level up. I find that if I don’t build my character with level 20 planned out then I’ll often be asking my GM to let me change past options so I can qualify for new options at each level. Having to plan ahead to be able to take the feats that you want can be very time consuming.

I usually ask my dm what is the expected level for the end of the campaign and build it until that level.

There are rules for retraining to change past options that make sense actually, just takes some downtime and money I think. I personally don't plan that far ahead, but I sometimes look at options ahead to have a rough idea of how I might get critical specialization or things like that. From what I hear, most character builds will at least be ok if not better as long as you have at least one good stat for your class. That being said I haven't experienced higher levels yet, so we'll see

Unfortunately PF material purchased from Paizo does not cross over to Demiplane so you'd have to buy everything all over again making it very difficult to change over if you've already purchased a bunch of material.

I had never heard of “proficiency without level”. That’s awesome. I think bounded accuracy is so much better than the treadmill/arms race approach. Now I just have to convince my group… 😂

Hooray! I'm so glad the Dudes are including Pathfinder content! Hope you'll eventually create your own campaign setting. Yeah, different from Drakkenheim. I love that one, but it's very 5e-ish. I hope to see something new.

Just Remember Kelly Prepared Casters and Spontanious Caster function VASTLY diffrent then they do in 5e Prepared Casters while you can swap spells like normal a prepared caster, however if you put Bless once like ya did and magic weapon like you did that means you can only cast EACH OF THOSE SPELLS ONCE PER LONG REST, You cant cast Bless twice because you only prepared 1 Bless spell you have to use both your spell slots to list Bless in both of them in order to cast it more than once, same goes for Magic Weapon. So RN you can only use both Bless and Magic weapon only once per day. Spontanious Casters work just like they do in 5e you have a # of spell slots and you can cast any spells you have memorized. their is a Divine Spontanious Caster in the form of the Orcale, but that class is VERY complicated for a New player to pathfinder 2e. Also Occultism deals with any spells involving mindcontrol or manipilation of thought and are primarily used by Bards.

If Monty likes Rogue with the Demoralize action you should take Swashbuckler with the Braggart fighting style which specializes in demoralizing your foes to gain Panache (swashbuckler sneak attack) Im making a poppet Teifling for this based on my time as a haunted house worker

It’s not their, it’s from another company, they just have paizo’s permission, that’s why of the absurd pricetag. I think paizo takes a 15 dollars share from every book sold there, if you want a free alternative go with wanderer’s guide if you like the shiny feel or pathbuilder if you want something more compact, powerful, customisable and for only 5 dollars one time (you don’t even need to pay that lol, it just adds some stuff and cloud support)

Really hoping to see a Swashbuckler in the group if they roll out a PF 2E game post Drakkenhiem. I've fallen in live with this class, and am hoping to be able to find a PF 2E game soon to try one out.

I know this was just making 1st level character but I actually think it would have been kind of cool if there was a little bit more at the end of them leveling up to 2nd level just to show off that process. So my first character. We actually use the Dual-Class variant rules which are like "Super Multiclassing" rules so I made a Goblin Alchemist-Wizard who is all about blowing stuff up and being focused on area/splash damage. I'm not 19th level with him and it has been a ton of fun! Although I admit that Alchemist is one of the most complicated classes and pairing it with Wizard, not a simple class either, has made him super complicated! But I like that in my games honestly.

Love the content (though more lukewarm on pf2 😛)! My first pf2 character was an Elven Rogue Thief/Cleric Archetype armed with an Elven Curve Blade, based on reasoning similar to Monty's. We were a small party, 3 people, and I combined damage dealing with skill utility and skill-based healing. I intended to build something like a tomb raider character and figured the Cleric Archetype would give me additional utility through access to Cleric spells, which sadly didn't work so well. It's my favorite pf2 character still as I feel martial classes are the big winners in the 3-action economy and Skill Feats, of which Rogues get twice as many as every other class, represent the most meaningful way of making a more diverse character in pf2. Expounding on the Cleric Archetype side of things I found the spellcasting utility really limited due to; * Having a lower casting stat than a main caster * Having lower casting proficiency than a main caster * Having lower level spell slots * The Counteract check rules * The limited utility of pf2 spells compared to their 5e counterparts. (Example; Freedom of Movement is very limited in how and what it can actually free you from.) Funnily enough my next character was a Cloistered Cleric/Champion Archetype character and from that experience I'd argue that CHA is actually the most important ability for a Cleric, as I would have traded my DC and spell attack rolls for an additional max-level Heal any day of the week. If I end up playing pf2 again I'd play another martial class, Rogue Thief being highest on the list. I'd love to see you play some pf2!
