We are looking to make the jump from a Sketchup + Layout workflow to VW. It's a big learning curve, but seems even in Landscape Architecture, BIM is the way of the future. You're video was great and definitely puts me a little more at ease about the time/$ investment! Thanks for sharing!

The section style faded is a class that I made in order to make the lines faded. I thank the great Micheal K for that trick. He showed me that decades ago and I still use it. You will have to create your own class called section style faded, edit the class to have the line weight, line colour, and line style that you want. Then you should be able to choose that in your advanced settings. I should make a members only video on this...

Hi Jonathan, where would I find the ‘Section Style Faded’ ? Is this a style in VW libraries? Cheers Grethe

Hi. The section faded style is a class that I have created. Create a class called “section faded style”. When you create this class, set the options to be “use at creation”, then set the graphic style to be a thin, light gray line for the white fill. I have been using this class for a long time and it is now a part of my layer and class standards so that I can import it quickly when I need to. I have to think my friend Grant for this trick.

I'm a Revit user and I'm interested in learning Vectorworks, I noticed that you used hatching to do your site fill, my question is this: is there no way of modelling the site in 3d and have the section cut through it too?

Hi, thanks for the comment. You can create the site model, that’s how I got the accurate ground line, but i don’t like the site model graphics, so I created my own hatch and draw it the way I used to in the old days BC (Before CAD). You can turn on the site model and see the site, you can choose to see the existing site, or the proposed site. Vectorworks will calculate the cut and fill quantities from the existing and proposed site.
