This Roundtable begins with a brief summary of the second podcast in this series, 'How to Create' psychological safety. Essentially, it comes down to old-fashioned management, enabling people to have small wins continuously on personally meaningful work by providing both practical and emotional resources. Topics discussed included: how to shift a person with a 'big ego' to a position of enlightened self-interest that included more altruistic considerations; how leaders, whether deliberately or inadvertently, can create environments that shut people down. This led to a discussion of how an awareness of how we impact on others can actually lead to a new curiosity, even a passion, for curating psychological safety; a discussion of Jacinda Ardern's final speech to the New Zealand parliament which reflected her high-level ability to create an atmosphere of psychological safety allowing truths to be told and allowing her to succeed despite her own insecurities and fears.
