I agree. Rocky and Apollo were given respect, and the new Creed may have been brash, but he was also human/likable. He also understood both his father and Rocky deserved respect.

My dad is the most stoic and cynical man in the planet when it comes from to movies. He doesn´t give a crap about anything. But when the Rocky theme played during Donnie´s fight, he stood up and cheer for him on the cinema. I think Top Gun Maverick is the only legacy sequel that has been just as good as Creed, they are the gold standard. But while Top Gun Maverick still keeps most of the focus on the same protagonist as the original, Creed is still the best "passing the torch" movie I have seen.

@robertwild9447

@@MediaLoverChris02 I actually do have mostly positive feelings on the sequel trilogy, I just think Creed and Top Gun Maverick are better and more cohesive. Even if we were just gonna compare Creed and Top Gun maverick to The Force Awakens, I think The Force Awakens is easily the weakest of those (even though I did like it). As for Puss in Boots the last Wish, it definitely deserves to be in the conversation for all time great sequels, but i don't think there's enough time between the first film and the second one to consider it a "Legacy sequel". I think there needs to be closer to 30 years between the first film in a franchise and the new one for it to be considered a legacy sequel.

Probably the biggest complaint people with Creed 3's development was Stallone not being in the film (he did produce it though). I watched it last night and can confirm even without Balboa the film stood on it's own two feet. Balboa passed the torch to Adonis at the end of Creed 2 and made the third Donny's film. The third film was very well done and really solid. Worth the ticket price

If you want to see what happened to Rocky after the classic movies, Creed gives you that. If you want to see a modern movie “like” Rocky, Creed gives you that. If you’ve never seen Rocky and just want to see a good boxing movie, this desire is also fulfilled by Creed. It is a continuation of Rocky that it isn’t slavishly and desperately saying “remember this” it just picks up from where the old movies left off and tells its own story. We’d be in a much better world if this ethos was brought to stuff like The Force Awakens and Ghostbusters Afterlife, which are so desperate with nostalgic pandering that they actually undermine themselves as meaningful continuations … which for me … is what I actually want to see in a sequel. I don’t want to see a bunch of reminders of the thing I already liked, I want to see what happens next

I was lucky enough to see this film at an early preview screening the other day. I was really looking forward to it for obvious reasons. Now it's not a bad film by any stretch, but it sadly just didn't hit the heights I hoped it would. Jonathan Majors is a great addition, and it's great for creed to finally have an opponent with some real acting chops as well as having the physical presence required. There's definitely a lot to like, particularly the bouts (despite the awful green screen arena), and everyone turns in a strong performance, but I just wanted to see a bit more of majors and MBJ outside the ring. Overall I just think the bones of something truly great were all there, but it didn't quite reach its full potential. I'll be intrigued to hear your review of the film. Keep up the great work FFV!

It’s not as refined and the ending has some sort of nostalgia bait, but it the last 5 minutes of an whole film, and everything around it is really well crafted, specially the homage to Harold Ramis that is strong and powerful… I just though the video some times uses Ghodtbuster as an example of what not to do in those types of movies and I think it’s kind of unfair to what they really did with it.

When I was first learning to drive and Blockbusters still existed on the very last of their legs, I'm pretty sure that's when I first saw the Rocky movies because my dad would have me drive there on the way back home to pick up more movies for us to bond over during the summer, so he was showing me a bunch of 70s and 80s stuff I hadn't before. They're great movies. Then when I heard about Creed, I was like, wait, what? The math doesn't add up, when did he have another kid? What are they doing? Saw it anyway, and while disappointed to hear that it was an illegitimate son, that is an unfortunate reality of some of our heroes, but they told a fantastic story with Adonis and Rocky, just a fatntastic film. Second one, I was not a fan of, it felt pretty derivative and the sins of the fathers being put upon the sons just wasn't hitting for me, I haven't seen it again since although I probably should because the actual drama stuff I remember being really good. Creed III is a nice return to form and giving Adonis his own villain again, it's really really good. I don't know where they'll take things from here, but whatever they choose to do, I hope that it's as good as the Rocky movies and Creed I and III.
