This Cress Bug pattern is based on the pattern tied by Joe Humphreys. Joe is a legend in our sport and lives about an hour from our shop. The Central Pennsylvania area is full of spring creeks and very fertile limestone streams with lots of aquatic insects. One of those insects that are prominent in those spring creeks are cress bugs and sow bugs. This simple pattern is a great representation of them. This pattern is also great for a scud imitation.
I like to tie this in sizes 12-16. I also tie this in an olive color to match the scud in my area. One reason this is such a great pattern is how simple it is to tie. More times than not it is the simplest flies that catch the most fish. Keep it simple and have fun tying. If you need the materials for this fly, please head over to our website at www.holsingersflyshop.com for all your tying needs. Thanks for watching. -Shawn
