There is lots for the KTM 390 Adventure got mine last year put up graded skid plate and hand guards form KTM, fitted GIVI Trekker 33/46 hard bags. and went with Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires and heated grips. all fitted great all came in wright away, there is a lot of stuff out there for the 390 Adventure , like Seat concept makes a seat but I find mine just fine, You can up grade the rear suspension but I have no problem with what it comes with. So do not know what you friend was looking for I have not had any trouble getting any thing I wanted for this bike. Did that bike go in for its first check and oil change because the reprogram it then and makes a world of difference. I git on mine and just ride no need to run through any menu, It is there if you want to make any changes but to use only takes a couple of seconds. to turn off traction control or switch to off road ABS. I have never had the need to do either but is there if I want to get into some really gnarly stuff. This is an adventure bike not a Duel Sport, for that I go to my DR650 or waiting for a CRF 300l the DR650 I use as a 50/50 bike the CRF300L will be set up for 90% off road but even on the 300L will have to add a bash plate better handle bars, and hand guards and proper off road tires. These bikes are at a cost you can have 2 or 3 for the price of one middle weight ADV bike and will be much better of road for 90% of the riders. There is some vib. on the KTM but I have to think about it to even know it is there. and I only get it through the foot pegs. I have over 10,000 Km on mine and loving it. If you think it is not good off road open your eyes and watch some of the videos ( KTM 390 Adventure off road ) you will be surprised what they but it through with no problems. You will have to turn off the traction control if you want to race through loos stuff going up hill so the control dose not kick in, and they did fix it so you do not have to keep turning it back on, when you stop the bike. I have had mine through 6" of sand and some deep mud full of ruts and never had a problem, with the traction control on, but I was not racing just taking my time.

Well said, I knew the aftermarket would come around for the 300 and the 390, but they are so new it took a bit. Now the aftermarket is filled up with whatever you could want or need. I’m sure most bikes are better off-road than we give them credit for, I’ve seen people do adventures on old gold wings with jumping! For me, I already have a CB500X with the rally raid suspension so my heavy off-road bike stall is full. I’m sure the KTM is similar and probably better than the CB, but I don’t want to do days of off-road on anything that heavy, especially alone. I'll take you to task on a few of your key comments: I've had a V-Strom 650 for years now, and while it has some very mild vibes at certain RPM's, it's a rare bike that doesn't have some of it's own, either. I absolutely love this modest do-it-all, go anywhere mighty machine. My friend has had a 390 ADV. for the past few years, and he is extremely happy with it. He's never complained once about any vibes.(rides on and off road) In a few months, I'll be taking delivery of a new 300L Rally, knowing full well that almost every honest review makes note of the thumper 300's vibeyness at higher RPMs (ie top end highway speed) For me, it's not a concern, since this bike will be living most of it's life off road at much lower rpms, where it's super smooth.
@grindlex9

I just feel like the V Strom wanted to live in a certain rev range, especially compared to my CB500X, which is happy and smooth at every speed and gear. I didn’t spend a ton of time on the KTM but to me it had a happy spot in the rev range and unhappy spots too. Every bike you begin to ride around its annoyances, the bikes I like have more linear and smooth power deliver.

On-road it’s amazing, and is super comfy at highway speeds(75-80). The vibrations never bothered me but I could see how it might be a problem for others. After upgrading to a much beefier skid-plate, I finally went from dirt/gravel trails to more technical sandy/rocky trails in Moab, Utah. Skid plate took an absolute beating. The 390 adv does not have the clearance for real off-road adventure riding. I was really limited on the terrain I could get through because of its height. Currently searching for a true dual-sport.

Yours is not a good review because you are heavily biased. You have carefully laid out all of the things you like about your CRF 300 rally. There are a lot of things to like about the CRF 300 rally. However, you either don’t talk about or take the position that it’s no big deal about some glaringly bad things about the crf300 rally. There is no way around it. The suspension is comically soft. The factory, foot, pegs, pedals, levers and handlebars are extremely low quality. The power to weight ratio of the crf300 rally is quite bad making it no good for serious, off-road, and very under powered for any kind of touring. It does, however live right in the sweet spot between those two things for which it is ideally suited. Lastly, you like to make cheap shots at KTM because the 390 is built in India. The crf300 rally is built in Thailand. The KTM was designed in Austria by a very reputable company, and a Honda was designed in Japan by an very reputable company. The 390 adventure has a lot more power has better quality suspension. It also has a far superior electronics package. The KTM 390 does not have the clearance or the suspension travel of the CRF 300 rally. At the end of the day, your 300 rally is a more trail capable trail bike. It is in no way a dirtbike, it is far too heavy, and under powered. I get it that you really like your CRF 300 rally and because of that, I don’t think you can be critical of it.

Ridiculous: Any motorcycle that offers technology specially if is in order to improve safety should be welcome with a big smile. If one doesnt want to use it because will have to spend 20 seconds to set it up and NOT 5 MINUTES, then dont use it.

All I’ve heard are horror stories about traction control and off-road riding, it’s only a 40hp bike, probably not necessary. ABS is fine, I’ve done quite a bit of off-road on the CRF and never turned it off. My problem with the technology is that it needs fiddling every time you restart the bike unless you buy more pieces.

@@grindlex9 Thanks for your reply. Regarding TC and ABS are given the option to turn it off and now KTM in its model 2022 comes with few changes, up to the complaints users have risen. For instance, if one is riding off road and the TC as well the ABS (rear tires) are switched off, in case one needs to turn on the engine the computer will keep the off road settings, hence no need to reset it. I would say that for off road is not so crucial the HP but the torque, the ktm has a powerful one for its dimensions, that is why is more appreciated by those wanting to use an adventure bike but off road, compare to other adventure bikes. The problem with technology is not having to ''bother'' ourselves with the extra effort to set or reset it (come on!!!!!), but the fact that TECHNOLOGY may bring some issues if it does not work properly, well that is my opinion. If you ever will look at having an adventure bike I would highly suggest you to look at the REH 411 (royal einfield himalayan), its an ""all can do" adventure with a 21' spoke front wheels. Yes a British bike but is made in INDIA Cheers!

It’s ashamed he didn’t mention the common engine seized of that 390 engine. It’s Indonesia build this time i think, instead of India? Maybe they got better, i dont know

Fortnine's review of the 390 was the worst ever in my opinion. He held it to a standard for which it was never intended. It was meant to primarily be a street bike with the capability to hit up some dirt roads and for that it's perfect. In fact with a change of tires it will do much more. If you want a real review of the 390 check out this review by the legendary Jimmy Lewis. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qWmFmqBmfWWEnWk I own both the 390 and the 690 enduro r. I absolutely love the 390 for blasting around backcountry roads and double track dirt roads. It's not a mini African Twin and was never meant to be but I did recently complete one of the BDRs with it after a tire change.. Interestingly enough I am selling my 690 enduro and will be picking up a crf300l in two more days. I'm an older rider and find the 690 to be more bike than I will ever need. I think the 390 and the 300 will be a fantastic combination. When my day will primarily consist of dirt I will be on the 300 and when it will be a bit more road I'll be on the 390. Don't sell the 390 short. It's a lot of bike for the buck and is quite capable within limitations.

@@michaelsupple6081 I have a 390 adventure and it's a superb bike so versatile ..I have a 250L Honda and like you have a 300L on order and think it's a perfect pair...can't say I have watched Fortnine review but not particularly interested in his opinion anyway
