For anyone curious about the books - I've read 'Three Men In a Boat, To Say Nothing of the Dog' by Jerome K. Jerome so many times I've lost count. And there is now a recent fantasy time slip novel - 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' - by sci-fi author Connie Willis - a modern take off from Jerome's book which is, if anything, even better. Waxwork was the premier of the Peter Lovesey series and won an award - I still remember the first time I read it many years ago. More recently I found Waxwork and several others in my local library - just as good as I remembered.

Yes Ria..I think you are probably right...there are certainly a few eye twinkling moments...I imagine things were probably filmed on much smaller budgets back then meaning less takes...I also feel that many of the actors were real "actors"...used to working in the theatre and able to gel together properly as a working team for each episode.

@@vaudevillefuntimes9753 June tried her hardest having gotten her favorite leading man Alan Dobie to reunite him with old friends he worked with on stage like Ronald Lacey 'chips with everything' [1963] she repeated this with with her Sherlock the late' Jeremy Brett she not only knew a fine actor she looked after them.. in those days Granada and other tv network like Yorkshire etc all had their own budgets to work from alas that was ended by Melvyn Bragg under 'new labour.. i can you tell the yorkshire tv studios survived and, channel four is now run from there... i hold a great deal of Alan Dobie's archive if anyone here care to view i am on facebook as smv ridout
