As an Australian who loved the seeing the Poms getting smashed 5 - 0 , K.P. was the sacrificial scapegoat for there woeful summer down-under. He was the highest run scorer for them! If anyone should have been sacked/dropped from the side it should have been A. Cook. His captaincy under pressure was pitiful , Trott pulled a heart muscle as did Swan, K P was only one who showed any real fight and that he had a pair.

Difficult, individualistic, maverick or unpredictable yet brilliant players: Herschille Gibbs, Lance Klusener, Graeme Smith, Ian Botham, Shane Warne, Michael Slater, Shoab Akhtar, Virat Kohli, Andrew Symonds, Andrew Flintoff, etc etc. Yet for some reason, the modern England Cricket team cannot manage a guy that is essentially and potentially their most lethal weapon. Reflects more the mentality of the team and board, than anything else.

Bluntly put Pietersen's form had been poor for some time. BUT in my opinion Cook is the WORST England Captain of my lifetime and he and Flower ran the worst tour I've ever seen. In my opinion the true reason Pietersen went is because the ECB wanted to bring Peter Moore back as coach and my bet would be Moore said he wouldn't take the job if Pietersen stayed after the debacle that took place between them previously. Yes Pietersen is an egotistical person whose mouth (and thumb if you remember text-gate) sometimes run ahead of his brain but that's the price you sometimes pay for having a genius in your team. I have no doubt Pietersen had still got plenty to offer England and the fact the ECB and Cook felt they couldn't cope with him shows how weak and ineffectual they really are. Vaughan managed him just fine, Strauss didn't have too many troubles with him and he produced big scores at big moments in big games. His form fell when Cook and Flower came in and did the most spineless double act in the history of cricket. That Cook is still my nation's Captain is a disgrace and every member of the ECB who have kow-towed to him and Peter Moore should hang their heads in shame.

It's a disaster from ECB Management. He is a pain in the back, like Mike mentioned but he is some one who can bring the X-factor to English team, which is what they lacked for so long, until players like Freddie, Swan and KP came along. The can't afford to drop him unless they are ready to go back to being the same old English team which can fight but not good enough to win.Such a shame that their rise is short lived. You know since sacking KP England have not really moved on and become a better side . The sacking of KP only showed up one thing ..certain people within the ECB hierarchy who are not as good and talented as KP looking out for themselves to engineer a better position people like Flower, Whittaker, Newell all who dislike KP. Problem from KP was he was fast tracked into the England team by Vaughan and Fletcher who were his biggest supporters but when they went his career and relationship with the ECB went downhill especially after the captaincy debacle. Some people were jealous that he did not come through the English lions or showed years of hard graft to deserve his spot in the England team and got more attention they tud

He wanted to pick and choose when he played, needed time off for spot fix T20, didn't want to play 50 over game, rarely played county cricket......basically wanted to re-write the central contract to suit him, typical of the man really, selfish egotistical narcissist. he had a great talent, but wanted the centre of attention. We have the same problems we have always had, batting collapses, ineffective bowlers when it doesn't swing, average spinners, and a poor county league. T20 is not cricket, and doesn't produce talented cricketers, so these problems will always exist

because he stabbed his captain in the back, sent txts so his SA mates on how to get him out, created friction, and generally disrupted team ethic. narcissism got him the sack, his ego prevented him from apologising, so he wrote a spitefull book as 'revenge'.

Funny you say that about KP because that is what the ECB are doing with players like Butler, Stokes and Morgan and they will have to do with Root , Broad and Anderson. It was alright for the ECB to take Strauss on one tour and then allow him home for the birth of his child , If England are a better team than sacking KP is justifiable but Cook has just resigned where his reign has included 2 Ashes series wins contested rather poorly and he's had record amount of losses for a captain and I think half of them must be losing by an innings or more than 200 runs
@simonfrain1393
7 жыл бұрын
They have re-written the central contract, and introduced incremental contracts since kp spat his dummy out, it was always going to go this way because of the money involved in 2020, and more leagues have been created since the ipl. some players leave tours for the birth of a child, its has happened for years, and not something I agree with personally. Loads of players have been dropped from England duty and responded with a lot more class, strauss himself was dropped, and knuckled down to return with a bang, kp made it all about himself as usual, he is a prima donna. Cooks record is average, but he has captained England more times than anybody else, and won some memorable series. the 5-0 was awful, but not the 1st time......and maybe not the last, next winter will be a serious test against the old enemy. the team that had kp was balanced, settled, organised and very talented, since then we have lost almost all of them and have been very much in transition. As always in my opinion, the bowlers make the difference, and win the match, but without a top spinner we have always struggled and often reverted back to monty when swann wasn't enough. Production of top test players is always the priority, but made harder by 2020.

Not being English, but having been a passionate follower of the game for two decades you do not get a prize for knowing the ECB does not appreciate egos, no bureaucratic body does, but the truth is that even if KP NEVER scores a century again he can score quickly and win games that way. He is NOT the most gifted player in the team, a technique like that of Bell is far more preferable, however I am glad Vaughan made mention of his accolades because at almost 35 KP has potentially 2000 Test runs still in him and when a sportsman is that age and still has the energy and enthusiasm of someone a decade younger you WANT them in the team, hence his unceremonious axing is in a word ludicrous. By the way, this is from an Aussie who loves watching England get defeated; but one must acknowledge that players like KP are good for the game and bureaucrats are NOT. Thank you ever so much for the post.

Well, with England not doing too badly in Australia right now, leading the series 2 - 1, I feel it's safe to say England do not need Kevin Pietersen back in the side. The team is strong and solid right now. Kevin Pietersen egotistical attitude would ruin that. If he was called into the team again he would ruin the mindset of the new players they have brought in. And also, at the age of 35, Pietersen would have only 1 or 2 more years of cricket left in him at Test Cricket. So, would bringing him in really be a long term benefit? It's unlikely. The ECB should have given valid reasons for his dismissal, but I feel given his poor form and even worse attitude (Ignoring the Twitter parody and text debacle) he shouldn't be allowed to come back. And for all of you who say he should be, now that Strauss is in charge and has made it clear Pietersen will never come back, just stop saying he should be there. He shouldn't be and won't be again. Continuing to say otherwise is just wasting your time.

He clearly did this often as he claims he can't remember what he said, what others said or who was as pecifucally apart of the chat. What a hypocrite !!! He moans about a Twitter account when he sent a series of back and forth messages where at least one text - sent by the South African-born England batsman to opposing South African players - referred to Andrew Strauss as a 'doos'. In Afrikaans it is slang for 'dumb c***'. He only apologised to Strauss after he retired. The implications of his book and his image had huge ramifications on the team, individuals contracts, their endorsements and their careers.

I think winning the Ashes went to Vaughan’s head a bit. He now seems to think he is the divine word on leadership. He talks as if KP should have been allowed to do whatever he wanted and everyone should have to put up with it. KP’s supporters never acknowledge that he has to take any responsibility for what happened - a bit like the attitude of the man himself. it’s always all everyone else. I know a similar but reasonable departure in India as well. Ganguly was sacked as well but he had some poor run for sometime back then. But kp did score runs and when he failed rest of the team also did. This was an absurd move and the reason they never won a away series after that 2012 india series. Gooch has piped up and given meat to the bones of this story. KP was caught at long-off in the second innings, leading to a dressing down from Gooch, who then had harsh words for captain Alastair Cook. Cook never addressed the situation directly, so he never spoke directly to KP - which to me suggest he's not a real leader. From there, it evolved into an argument at netting practice when KP told GG not to speak to him like that again which led to GG telling KP that Ozzies had worked out how to play him - essentially this was to masseur his ego and make obvious field changes just when a bowler is about to bowl. Which I thought was quite clever of Clarke. Then the final straw was when KP refuse to play No3 when Trott went home. Swann leaving as well was partly down to KP. Interesting, right?
