McCulloch chainsaw engines? Nope... Mini turboprop! Very cool!

I reckon it's the perfect solution for your mission. Also, replacing the bearings every 25 hours will probably take less effort than it does changing the oil on my IO-360 every 25 hours! Innovation is what makes experimental aviation so awesome - congratulations.

Very cool! Should produce perfect power for a CriCri. Can’t wait to see it in action.

Love your build, great choice, would suggest reversing your guarded switch to guard when on not off, think firewall cutoff on King Airs and such, know it is early but great work.

That 5-blade non-feathering prop is a seriously dense drag disk if engine is failed. Will the airframe handle that in a failed/single engine scenario?
@crikitaviation
3 жыл бұрын
I agree. This is a concern of mine. I love the look of the 5 blade prop but they are likely less efficient than a 2 or 3 blade prop. These blades are quite thin so It's probably not as much drag as it looks compared to the much wider 2 blade CriCri props. If I can find a simple light weight feathering 5 blade prop I will use it!

Holy moly 25 operational hours till main bearing changes? That's crazy. I don't know what I really expected from an rc engine. But jeez. How simple is breakdown of the engine to change the bearings? I hope you can do it and not outsource it.

Also please describe the diameter of the spinner and who makes it. I’m asking because I need a 5 bladed spinner of roughly that size.

Are you thinking about redundancy and error checks by using 3 arduinos?
@crikitaviation
Жыл бұрын
No. Each engine will run off of separate ECU's, fuel pumps, batteries, controls and arduinos. The only shared item between the engines is the fuel tank itself. Should fly even on one engine. I don't expect two failures at once. :)
@bibrakc

@@crikitaviation no I meant the failure (bug, segfault, errors, faults etc) within a single arduino. If there is only one arduino (for an engine) and it outputs wrong signals how can those be detected? If there are 3 and are checked against each other then the faulty one can be found and ignored on the fly.

can you please give us Infos about Jet engine, how much have you Thrust now and why turboprob why not only Jet?
@parrotraiser6541
3 жыл бұрын
He covers that quite comprehensively in the video. Basically, jets are very inefficient low and slow; they work when flying high and fast. (The fuel burn for a jet wouldn't allow for 30 minutes of flight.) The turboprop is much more efficient at turning fuel into thrust. For numbers, check the maker's website.
