My dad was also an unassuming addict. He was a home owning, tax paying, veteran with steady employment who also had a cocaine addiction. He died 3 years ago when he unknowingly did coke laced with fentanyl. Im sure this guy felt like his life was over but I promise him his family would rather see him in jail than in the morgue. Also, you made me cry tears of relief when you said that the death is a peaceful death. I've never wanted to look that up because I was afraid if the answer. I've spent 3 years wondering if my dad was scared and struggling in those last moments and realized the horrible mistake that had happened. I know how you feel and how hard it is not knowing if a loved one went peacefully or not and I've been frequently preoccupied by those same thoughts when my dad's body was found in a dam on my birthday. We didn't even know he was missing because we thought it was at rehab and unfortunately there are mysterious circumstances and the case is still open but we have no idea exactly what day he died since he was last seen on surveillance camera from a gas station buying food to bring with him for rehab and since that was almost 11pm we don't know what day he actually died on because it could've been before or even after midnight. All we know was his body floated fully clothed down the river for a week before he was found in fishway gates at the dam and his cause of death was drowning. It's haunting not knowing if he was lucky enough to go peacefully or fighting for his life while drowning 😢 we have 2days that I mourn his possible death date, then grieve the entire week he was in the water and grieve again on my birthday for the day he was found. The year I was born my birthday happened to fall on father's day which happens every so often years and it's the same way this year. I truly wish you the best in life as you continue on and my thoughts and prayers are with you and we don't know each other but if you need someone to talk with just reply and let me know and I'll give you my email or something. Luckily for me I'm coming up on one and a half years clean next month, and have no desire to return to using. I've found that what has helped me the most to stay clean is putting all the money that would have gone to drugs into an investment portfolio and keep track of all the money on paper. It helps with redirecting all the mental energy I used to put into figuring out how to get high, plus it really puts into perspective all the money I would have wasted on getting my fix everyday. In just 1.5 years I've put away almost 20k. It's insane.

Or more likely they set out to speed ball..crack and meth dealers DONT GET REPEAT biz if they.put drugs together that cancel each other out in ways. It's way more common for people to speed ball than for dealers to cut uppers with downers..because most their customers don't want to be sedated and repeat biz is the ONLY way to deal drugs. It's very common however for users to use street Rx pills to come down from the speed/coke/crack and most pills on the street are just fake fent knock offs now. So I feel your pain, but I think you misinterpreted events due to drug users not being that open about how and what they use. As a person who has been clean from hard drugs myself for almost 7 yrs, I think that he should be sent to rehab, but barred from serving in public office ever again. I understand better than anyone the struggles of addiction, but there needs to be a higher standard for our elected officials. I'm just extremely thankful that I got out of the dope game before everything started getting laced with Fentanyl. Also, BRUCE I implore you to research the truth about cops and getting exposed to "fentanyl" in the field. It is NOT possible to absorb Fentanyl through skin contact just from touching the powder. The cops perpetuate that narrative in order to create sympathy or fear or whatever, and all the videos you see online are really just uninformed/uneducated officers suffering from panick attacks. Psychosematic symptoms can create just as real a reaction as actual chemicals. It's pretty extraordinary actually. Cops have plenty of risks that they deal with, but on the spot exposure to Fentanyl is complete nonsense. Just trying to get the truth out there.

The videos of cops “overdosing” are entirely misrepresented. It’s just not possible to overdose from touching tiny amounts of fentanyl. If it was, doctors and nurses would be dropping like flies. I highly recommend looking further into it. Spreading these ideas is going to result in people actually suffering an overdose dying because people will be afraid that they’ll get a contact overdose.

Reilly, 41, was taken into custody Thursday morning, according to Cranston Police Major Todd Patalano. Cranston police say Reilly was arrested in North Kingstown. Court records show the former councilman is facing three counts: first-degree child molestation sexual assault, second-degree child molestation sexual assault, and enticement of a person under the age of 16. Police allege the charges stem from an incident on May 3. Former Cranston city councilman Matt Reilly appears in court on June 8, 2023. (William Clark/WPRI-TV) He was arraigned Thursday and ordered held without bail. Reilly’s arrest warrant comes after a legal guardian of a 12-year-old girl, unrelated to Reilly, filed a complaint with police, according to a press release

Bruce, I've got to correct you on this one. Ask any nurse, fentanyl does not absorb through the skin like that. Those fentanyl patches are carefully designed and treated to allow cutaneous transfer, and you'd have to wrap yourself up like a mummy in those things to OD. Otherwise you have to ingest it directly. Cop legends about ODs from touching fent are just like those stories they tell each other about how every guy who hulks out after getting tased is supposedly on PCP. Nah guys, you just got your asses kicked, it's okay to admit it. When cops actually do OD on powdered fent it's either because they got it in their eyes or mouth, they had their hand in the cookie jar, or like with those PCP supervillains they're just landing on a convenient narrative because they need to explain it somehow. None of those stories stand up to scrutiny, and the stories about aerosolized fent are 100% BS. Health care workers handle fent every day, it just doesn't work like that. Ask yourself, why are police the only ones affected by it in that way, but literally everyone else who handles the stuff is not? Why are no firefighters or EMTs having that reaction? Edited to add paragraph breaks because that was a big ol' wall of text.

I agree to disagree Fentanyl can be absorbed through the the skin by touching it, unless the powder form is disturbed it causes a reaction if it is not disturbed it has no effect let me verify that the side that is mediated. It does not have to be put in eyes, nose, and mouth to cause a serious reaction to someone else which is why Narcan is being used by Officer’s and Emergency medical personnel. The low cost of Fentanyl and the lacing/mixing of cocaine and meth it’s truly hard to know what someone has used.

Alcohol is a drug too, Bruce. Anyone can become addicted to any drug, especially if you had childhood trauma that never got processed or resolved. People also become addicted to foods such as sugar, or harmful processes such as gambling or sex or violence. It's all about escaping our dysregulated emotions because as a society we are taught that it's a strength to stuff down our emotions when really the opposite is true. Not a single thing will happen to this councilman, NOT ONE THING. That is the way the rules are set up for any state of federal employee. For example, There is a mayor in the city of FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, who committed a felony hit & run or hit & skip, while D.U.I. and caused approx $25K in private/personal damage to other peoples belongings, "cars" and loss of work etc. They didn't even charge him, and he was only required to give an apology to the public, and he is still the mayor. Mayor Tom Henry is a criminal... Their excuse for not charging him, was a week after his actions of a two felony's, among other "would be charges" that... again, a week after he did that mess, just found out that his wife has cancer... Well, I am sorry for his wife, and the journey she will endure, but, anybody else, would have received a huge "F.U." and destroyed your life and you lose everything for even a partial amount of charges.. But not TOM HENRY.. Then you realize, his brothers and sisters (13 of them) have their hands laced into everything of that city including corruption and theft of tax dollars, and favors of contracts to friends and family over others who are more qualified or who came in with the lower bid.. Huge political pulls to take care of their buddies...

honestly, the whole "fentanyl going into your system through the skin" thing is inaccurate from what i can see and have been told. For instance, I have never touched fentanyl and gotten a contact high in any way. In the past we have seen officers touch drugs and pass out from "contact exposure" but its proven that the officers are just overexaggerating a reaction. And sure it can absorb through the skin, but its not enough to get you high from touching a little bit of it.

Sigh. Okay,so there is the FDA approved fentanyl transdermal patch that is prescribed by doctors and it is,intentionally, designed to absorb into the body through the skin. It takes several hours for any effects to kick in so,even touching one of these patches, briefly, should not cause any harm. The Mexican cartel manufactured fentanyl comes in a powdered form or pressed into tablets. Inhalation of this powder could, definitely, cause problems for “normal” people, without a built-up tolerance. But,it will not absorb into the skin by,merely, touching said product. The imported product must be ingested in some way to take effect. Not only that but,the officers in the videos are suffering panic attacks as fentanyl overdose causes loss of consciousness and an extremely lowered rate of breathing. The victims also begin to turn a blueish color from lack of oxygen. Fentanyl can bring on seizures if someone is allergic, too. Contact exposure is a load of crap, basically.

My mother has been a respiratory therapist since well before I was born, so I grew up being used to her coming home from a shift in near tears, asking for a hug because a child out there was now without a mom or dad, or how someone not much older than me wasn't going to get to grow up now. Once I got old enough, she started telling me about how they died specifically, and how much they must've suffered. Because of this, I've always been incredibly aware of how this can, and will affect anybody in some way. You're not safe from it just because you came from a wealthy, white family. You're not even safe if you've never experienced any type of trauma. Honestly, I think Prosecuting over residue in a pipe is probably counterproductive. Possession of low amounts of drugs ought to be decriminalized. People need treatment and if we accept substance abuse disorder as a medical disorder, then those kind of arrests are just going to make them further spiral

Bruce should stop saying comments about “If they were black then they would be in handcuffs already, or if they were black then they would be on the ground already, or if they were black then they would be in the back seat of the cop car already “ it’s very divisive and not true. If you don’t listen to commands then maybe these things happen, no matter what color you are. !!

As a former dope fiend I can tell you, you can do anything you do sober while in active addiction, its just for how long you can maintain it. Seen some people with heroin addictions maintain high paying prestigious jobs, but eventually you misstep. Its like having an affair, you can take all the steps possible and be as sly as possible, bit eventually you’ll get caught.

@@Pop_Culture_Pulpit Everything stops working for you eventually. As a petty nicotine addict, I used to enjoy the effects of nicotine. Mild buzz and made me feel more focused. I used to still have sensitivity to it and could even do too much of it if I wasn't careful. Now, it's more like I need to constantly use it to just feel normal. It no longer "adds" anything to my experience while using it. However, when I don't have it, THAT is when I "feel it" the most, or more accurately, feel the withdrawal.

Sleep apnea can be really bad. You do literally stop breathing in your sleep and it can be alarming to your partner or anyone who hasn’t ever experienced it firsthand. I don’t know how the guy is sleeping on that stuff though .. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to do the opposite 😂 And I don’t think race has anything to do with this. I think it’s because in his wallet the officer saw his city ID and realized who he was.

Is it privilege bc he is white, or privilege bc he's a councilmember wearing a suit who might have connections? Stop with the anti-whitism Bruce! It's 1) biased and anecdotal and 2) perpetuates racism steretypes that send black men into a terror at the sight of a cop. And what do you do in terror? You either fight or run which can get you hurt. You should challenge your racial assertions. And also not pretend that the anti-cop, pro #thuglife culture is exacerbated by the alarming rate of black on black crime. The police need to be welcome in these communities to keep law and order. Won't happen if they are scared of police.

Addiction doesn’t discriminate. It’s fucking sad. The hardest part is that you can’t love someone out of it. I’ve tried. It doesn’t work. My best friend was clinically dead from a heroin overdose for several minutes. She survived it but it permanently fucked up her brain. She took her own life ten years later. She was, without a doubt, the most brilliant person I’ve ever known. Studied to become a psychiatrist, actually. She couldn’t beat it. No one could’ve understood their issues more than her. Fucking devastating.
