Is a tiedown for longer walls only? walls 18-24in are fine without holddowns correct?

They are for walls with high aspect ratios more or less meaning they should be used when the walls are taller than they are wide but best to look up "shear walls aspect ratios"

Hello B.A.S.R. TV, How deep should the bolt be? How do you know where to install the hold-down hardware? I live in Los Angeles. Can I use 3/4" plywood for the shear walls? Thank you for your time and energy. Russell

@@rerite2 the bolts should go in 4 inches into the concrete, 3/4” plywood is more than necessary as 1/2” is code, the bolts should go in every 6 feet and the floor transfer ties should be spread 32 inches on center
