CRITERIA OF SINUS RHYTHM ON ECG
The normal heart rhythm is called the sinus rhythm which is named by the sinus node.
The sinus node is a group of specialized cells that controls the heartbeat.
If you want to understand better the following interpretation, you might wanna check the previous two videos about ECG on this channel.
When reading an ECG, you have to decide whether the heart`s rhythm is normal or not. The sinus rhythm is defined by the following criteria on an ECG:
- The presence of P wave in all leads, which is positive in most of the leads, excepting aVR, where it is negative
- The duration of a normal P wave ranges from 0.06 to 0.10 sec and the amplitude ranges from 0.10 to 0.25 mV. In our case, the duration is 0.08 sec and the amplitude is 0.10 mV
- Each P wave is followed by a QRS complex
- Normal PQ intervals with a duration that ranges from 0.12 to 0.20 sec. On this ECG, the duration of PQ interval is 0.20 sec
In conclusion, on this ECG we have a normal heart rhythm, so sinus rhythm.
