"You provide a place to discover your aunts. (small pause) Kinda racist." imo it works, the pause is there to emphasize the discovering happening. "Kinda racist" in that case could then just be said as a reaction to what he's been discovering by using Mark's platform. But yeah, they actually had "aunt's" in the subtitles, and with the enunciation as you said, I didn't get it either when I first heard it

@Mat4yo

Many people misheard it. We all agree that the small pause being included is appropriate, but it was the annunciation of the word "aunts" that threw us off. The only thing that directed me askew while watching was the fact that he verbally punctuates "aunts" as if there were a period at the end, where he should have placed the kind of emphasis on "aunts" that invoked a comma, or continuation of sentence. Your assessment of its implications is surely interesting, and would still be kept intact if pronounced differently!
@jjnn2
5 жыл бұрын
I heard it like "your aunt's kinda racist" and then a cut off like "your aunt's kinda racist ______"
@blackavar2k
5 жыл бұрын
@@Mat4yo It might be a regional cadence or decorum difference. I heard it the way I would have said it to a friend in a conversation. "You know, my aunt... is kinda racist" - the kind of thing I would have to pause to digest even in the middle of saying it because it's a new bit of information I've got to then fit into the picture of who my aunt is, this person I've known and loved since birth. It gives one pause to see close family in a new and negative light and you might hesitate to spit the words out because you don't want it to be true.
@kannonball5789

With “You provide a place to discover your aunt’s kinda racist” I feel like it works in the original emphasis because the “kinda racist” seems like a punchline that’s tagged on to use the homophone of “aunts” and “aunt’s”. Like, “you made a place to discover your aunts” (playing into how Facebook likes to advertise itself) but then tagging on the punchline of “Your aunt’s kinda racist” It’s possible that the emphasis/writing could have been done better but I see why Lloyd performed it that way

ERB really needs to put you in one of their battles, like, as an actor. Even if you don’t have any input on the lyrics it would still be awesome to see you playing one of their characters. And considering how much work and time you’ve put into analyzing their battles, it seems natural.

Shit I can't rhyme. But I can point out the smooth and elegant visual transition from the "dope smoking" to "actual space" where the weed smoke turns into the takeoff exhaust as Musk travels to the moon! Cause that imagery was fanTASTIC and it tied the two couplets together even though they were thematically dissimilar.

My take on the "discover your aunt's" line was that it was a play on discovering your family (on fb), and seeing all the Diet Racist (TM) things that they post. Because of this, I think it would have been better to break the contraction and make the line: You provide a place to discover your aunt / is kinda racist. This sets up the dis as appearing to fall somewhat flat (just a comparison between Musk's companies and fb), and then turn it into a dis on how Zuck's legacy is people discovering the hyperbolic political opinions of their relatives.

Hey. I've been a fan of yours for about 3 years now. I used to hate rap but ERB allowed me to see historical references and appreciate them. Eventually this led me to your channel and you allowed me to appreciate the talent of lyricism. I'm not a fan of the culture behind some rap but seeing it used in the way you use it was really impressive to me. I didn't know ERB was coming back but I realized when it did I was more excited for your video analyzing it than the video itself. I'm really happy that is back while I still like the direction your channel is going. Your writing tutorials are my new favorite part of your channel. I just saw the Red vs. Gold battle last night. You two absolutely packed it with lines. I need to see it at least one more time, after this. I'm happy to have any reason to talk about ERB, but one of your analyses provides the best venue I know of. The character they developed for Zuckerberg was great. He was basically conceding his lack of humanity by imitating aspects of social media, like that is the only way he knows how to act human. My favorite part was that during the section with the punctuated lines, he was using the words at the end of each line as verbal hashtags: I'm cleanin' up like a wet nap #boast; I drive around in a hatchback #BeepBeep. After that quickfire section, he slows back down to the very deliberate, robotic delivery.

You missed the obvious things with Musk's dad and the apartheid part of apar-tide-pods. Musk is estranged from his father because Musk's father had a child with his own step-daughter, which is pretty frickin weird! And Musk grew up in South Africa during the apartheid, and so even though as far as I know Musk isn't a racist, being a white person in South Africa then had implicit advantages and privileges.

The sins of the father aren't of the son and Elon Musk had no control over where he was born. That line by Zuckerberg was flipping stupid. Yes! Hoped these would return 😁 great analysis as always, Matt. My own two cents: the 'fast rapping' part in Mark Zuckerberg's first verse I also saw as an analogy for how the online medias rapidly evolve; so much you can't keep up with all the info and programs unless you're actively trying (he mentions a lot of platforms and his mention of the car he drives is like how people share all kind of weird info about themselves), leading up to the 'fading out' line as Musk seems desperate to 'be with the times'. Maybe that's just overanalysing, though 😅

The line about discovering aunts threw me off too, though since I was reading the subtitles, I mostly just wondered why he paused. I assumed that was the intention, though--make it sound like an innocent line about reaching out to family via Facebook, and then throw in a stinger that changes the meaning. Also, is it just me, or did NicePeter's voice lose a bit of its Kermit-like quality when he got to the line about folding money? (23:05)
@Mat4yo

that can certainly be their intention, but I am merely reiterating my reaction. Possibly!

I was about to go to bed but your video popped up, and I said to myself - what the heck, these are 20+ well spent. Chisel This only makes me appreciate ERB more and you as a rapper who is enormously educated in theory and style. COMPOUND WORD 4YA: wireless charger

A loser can't tie the string of 'Super Sentai' to a verse without the dangers of using the word 'Hentai', but my own power ranges way beyond how word arrangers allow their pages to ferment. I godly produce a Venn-Diagram to make you repent; I'm YT's rap uber man guy, rhyming with ninety-eight percent U and two percent I.

I used to listen to this channel when they did with ERB back in the day, but im glad it came cross, I love history and I love rap, and this channel very detail, it is great b/c they are times when I don't know what there talking about and have to look it, thank you for making these videos, I think it would be awesome if they ask you for a special guest one of the shows.

One of the lines that I wished had been touched on was the “but for your kind man, I ain’t got room” line. Just a nice little reference to all the memes about Zucc being some sort of alien/lizard...thing.

To be fair, hardly anyone blinks during ERBs, unless it’s for a joke or emphasis. Haha. Glad to see ERB, and Chisel This! back! Can’t wait for Season 6 (hopefully we won’t get another Banner vs Jenner, or Jefferson vs Douglass).

Looking forward to your take on all the new ERBs! As for a complex rhyme scheme, try "Heward's Handy Haversack" or "Leomund's Tiny Hut" - it'd be cool to see you tackle D&D in a rap

@22:00 I feel like the "Oh shit, he got fired!" line is supposed to be a punchline, and this punchline is emphasized by hearing the "Oh shit," seeing the main Zuckerberg's mouth closed, feeling confusion, then seeing the new Zuckerberg become the new focus and finishing the line. At this point we realize that he was exclaiming based on something he read on the Facebook feed.
