I for one really like the colour of the wheels. Anything lighter like a gold would have made it look odd, but because its darker, IMO I think they look cool. I'm enjoying this style of content as you're using your expertise with detailing and enhancing or making the 911 back to having more of an OEM finish. I'm at the bitter end! 🎉

Have you tried sonax perfect finish? It’s a diminishing polish and it works really well on soft paints like Porsche and Toyota. Removes swirls and finishes superbly. I tend to use it with a rupes yellow pad

There till the end. My colour of car that, only mine is a bit lower budget, an 87 Kadett GT 16V. It has een painted over a year ago, and still a bit puzzled on what is the best way to go about finishing and sealing up a fresh paint job. Maybe you could elaborate on that some time in the future?

If you want a factory speaker upgrades without adding any extra amplifiers and subwoofers for not a lot of money, check BLAM speakers I was really surprised how good they are and I was running focals in my car before, the guy in charge of the company used to work for focal before btw

Thanks for the video John. Another great one! Question: have you ever tried polishing with a microfibre cutting pad? My VW has typically hard black VAG paint and I've tried a medium foam pad with Sonax PF and I'm getting no improvement. Contemplated the PF on a meguiars cutting pad.
@ForensicDetailing

U sure your getting no improvement and your not seeing machine marring? If u use a cutting pad mf u will need to finish it out with foam or mf finishing pad.
@AntEloftheHouseofEl
5 ай бұрын
@@ForensicDetailing yeah I'm not seeing much improvement removing the clay marring. Did consider maybe trying S20 black on a foam instead of the PF? Little bit more cut.

I was under the impression ceramic coatings were to prevent swirling in your paint work or is it the lazey way to keep your paint shiny. I am a wax person myself . I don't have a garage and stay in the east coast of Scotland. Enjoyed the video
@vincenzodigrande2070

Nah, ceramic coatings promise a lot of that, but they are basically just a few times tougher type of wax.

Hi Jon, love your videos so thanks for the content. I have a 996 in Meridian Silver (bronzy silver) with exactly the same Sports classics II wheels. I want to have mine refurnished in exactly that colour and you don't appear to like them so is there a mutually beneficial deal to be done here? E.g. just sell the wheels to me or even better you have my wheels to refurb in the colour of your choice (v much need refurb but not bent) and I have yours,

hey Rob, thx for offer mate but I want to keep these. old wheels can be buckelled or splits that have been refurbed can be heli coil threaded etc.. so I just know these ones are sound so I want to keep them mate.

Jon, to a polishing novice, can you explain whats what with the paint.... by that i mean, you suggested your paint was thick or high, but how much of that is clear and how much is primer and paint.... what does the machine measure, doen to the metal or just the clear.... i really dont understand it.... sorry to those that are rollimg their eyes and thinking, what a wally 😅

on a typical modern car. say 30-60 micron primer, 20-40 paint, 20-50 clearcoat. But thats really just a typical example. could be radically different. from top down to metal mate

The clearcoat is peeling off my old Audi. When you take a piece in hand, it really emphasis just how little thickness there is (barely a sheet of paper) and why care must be taken (well, on any other car; my Audi is beyond correction!!)

How old is the car ?
@Retset
5 ай бұрын
@@tafl-9198 19 as of yesterday! It's the only 2005 plate A3 I have seen with the issue. It was parked outside its whole life (my mum's car) and never received any more paint protection than they put on at the local hand car wash. The bonnet and bumper have completely had it and these were the bits most in the sun depending which way round it was parked. Still, it's pretty highly specced and drives well so I'll be holding onto it a bit longer yet and maybe will have those two panels reprayed. Only 'maybe' though - it's so relaxing to have a car I can park anywhere without a backwards glance!
@tafl-9198

@@tafl-9198 Indeed. However, the DSG clutch has gone on gears 2/4/6 so I need to get that done first (mega bucks but still better than me buying something else). I know a good place to cheaply but decently respray the panels and may well do it once the DSG is OK again. It's only got 53K miles on and is solid underneath so I do want to keep the old girl going for a bit longer!

its really the same as this porsche it will be soft paint. so really eyeball it. do your test set with what you feel is best approach. general rule if its covered in swirls, cut and finish is prolly gonna be the best way forward.
