The first solo-release from the makers of Critical Connect foot switches & batteries, the Torque is smooth, fast & efficient, with a long-lasting battery & crystal clear colour display.
The Torque is powered by the Critical Connect v3 battery pack, which boasts a 1.5 inch LED colour display with button inputs. Voltage is shown clearly in large, bright numbers, with the battery level shown above & the run-time below the current voltage.
Behind the screen is a custom German brushless motor with a stabilising system that provides power between 4.5 & 13 Volts for an impressive 15 hours of run time. The Critical Connect v3 battery pack fits comfortably onto the body of the machine & can be turned 360 degrees to allow you to position the screen wherever you can most easily see it & access the buttons.
The menu on this battery has a huge number of options for you to play with! Enter the menu by holding the L1 & R1 buttons down for three seconds & you’ll see a list of options - let’s take these one by one, using L1 or R1 to scroll up & L2 or R2 to scroll down.
The Critical Connect option allows you to connect to a Critical Connect Foot Switch via Bluetooth 5.0 - just select on or off in the menu once connected. You’ll be able to see from the home screen whether the Footswitch is connected or not by whether there are brackets extending from the top left Critical logo.
Jumpstart mode does pretty much what you’d expect - it can be turned on & off from the menu to give you an extra jolt of power as soon as you hit the power button. You can see on the home screen whether it’s activated by looking at the lightning bolt in the logo - a hollow lightning bolt means jumpstart is active!
Pedal mode allows you to select how to use your foot switch or pedal, from either momentary or continuous mode, depending on how you like to work. You can check the main screen to see whether the point in the voltage number is filled or empty - filled is continuous, empty is momentary.
The timer shows as standard, but can be hidden to prevent clock-watching & by entering your hourly rate, the machine will automatically calculate the cost of your tattoo. Choose whether to bill by start & finish times or only charge for the time the machine is drawing power from the battery pack. If you need to sneakily check your run time, you can find it under the Product Info menu option.
Select your button layout from left- or right-hand options - this will change whether your voltage is adjusted by the left or right buttons - & if you suddenly forget any important product information, you can find it under that very last option with the run time. Head back to the main screen by double clicking the central Critical button.
Let’s say you’ve got your Critical Torque in a right-handed configuration. This means you’ll use the R1 & R2 buttons to increase & decrease the voltage respectively in 0.1 Volt increments, while the L1 & L2 buttons will control your presets.
Presets can be pre-set by selecting the desired voltage & then holding your secondary buttons for three seconds to save . Once that’s done, it’s just a quick button click to select your desired preset, meaning you can switch from voltages suitable for lining to those for colour packing without hassle. A green line indicates whether you’re on your top or your bottom preset.
The Critical Torque machine comes with two options of fixed stroke length - choose the machine with green housing for a 3.5 mm stroke or black housing for 4.2 mm.
You can buy the Critical Torque as just the machine with wireless battery pack or you can upgrade to the full set which includes an extra battery pack, an RCA adaptor for those rare occasions where you need a wired connection, a spare 40 mm grip, a Critical Dual battery dock with USB-C to wall cable & this sick travel case to keep it all in!
