@@lift12716 I think there were some things that needed to be changed. 1) Way too many people are sexually interested in a child (granted they haven't reached those parts yet). There's ways to show people wanting to use Ciri's power that doesn't include them wanting to have sex with her 2) Women (particularly the sorceresses) are talked about in a way that hinges on the border of misogyny and focuses way too much about their attractiveness rather than their abilities. It really feels like Sap has a power fetish and brought that into his books a little too much Now, the whole monolith thing made no sense and that was just a big fail, as was whatever they were trying to do in Kaer Morhen. For whatever reason they got really ambitious in S2 and it showed how inexperienced the writers were, and now they have to deal with that

The plot starts to scatter and feel weightless, and the dialogue starts to remind me of a 90s soap (specifically the scene where Jen starts to neurotically lecture Ciri like an incompetent parent that doesn't understand how interpersonal dynamics work between human beings). You don't get to shortcut mentorship by explaining the rulebook of life to a young person as if they'll all of a sudden go "aha!"- it does not work and has never worked in the history of time, and makes the "mentor" seem naive and stupid for even trying it. For those who don't know, it's referencing the part where Geralt needed Yen's help regarding Ciri's training so he wrote to her from Kaer Morhen, but their relationship was complicated that time so he just decided to start with "Dear friend". Yen got pissed about it so she replied with a long condescending letter repeatedly calling him "dear friend" that's basically saying something like "Of course I will help you. I'm your 'dear friend' after all." Seems like another thing from the books that they took just to show they're following the books more closely but failed because it's an entirely different context.

What I find really funny is that they made the whole second season the way they did it to avoid the "boring part" of the books (well, the whole elf blood actually), only to find out that they don't really have anything to use and have to establish the relationships and the world now. We just had an extremely long, bad and boring filler instead of the whole season. Literally, if they'd rather start the second season by inviting Yen to Kaer Morhen instead of Triss, then spend an episode, maybe two in the castle (while the second line would maybe focus on politics through Triss and introduce the witches a bit), then move on to the plot" Time of Contempt" and ended it on Thanedd, we'd actually be where we are now. Otherwise I agree: the third is definitely an improvement. I'm especially glad to finally see some work with the main trio there (The letters and Yenn's infiltration of the house, due to the lack of wine, were quite nice). Since the books were written to make us feel that something is wrong when the three aren't together - it's nice to get some relationships so soon - it only took two seasons. I'm not even commenting on the fact that Ciri and Yennefer are someone completely different, I'm just happy that they're next to each other and talking to each other. Also, when we got to the part with the plot, they doesn't have to invent so much and there are therefore fewer logical problems. Unfortunately, everything else important is pretty much the same. The basic misunderstanding of the original in its most important aspect is beautifully seen through that banquet. The episode itself was probably not the worst, but Lauren again preferred a cheap "mystery and detective plot" to one of the best dialogues between Geralt and Vilgefortz - in addition, the conversation turns to Yen again, because she obviously has gravity of a black hole. Netflix is making a story that was supposed to be about characters mostly about plot and action. While Sapkowski scorned fate, prophecy, and predestination, Netflix relies on it etc.
@KaiHung-wv3ul

It's really stupid, if they thought Blood of Elves was too boring, they should've combined Blood of Elves with parts of Time of Contempt. A rough outline I think might work is like this, Episodes 1: Triss arriving at Kaer Morhen up to the vision with Ciri. Episode 2: At Kaer Morhen, Ciri's training, and ending with the argument between everyone about staying neutral and whatnot. Episode 3: On the road in Kaedwen, setting up the Scoia'tail's conflict with the humans. Episode 4: Travelling with the dwarves and with the whole Shaerrawaedd thing and the Scoia'tail ambush. Episode 5: Cutting between the Northern Kings' meeting at Hagge Castle, introducing Emhyr, and Ciri meeting Yennefer. Episode 6: Ciri's training with Yennefer and Geralt's river cruise. Episode 7: The beginning of Time of Contempt up to the messenger's death and Geralt meeting with Codringer and Fenn. Episode 8: Yennefer and Ciri arriving at Gors Velen, up to Yennefer and Geralt's reunion. Episode 9: The party at Thanedd, ending with Geralt meeting Vilgefortz and we see some preparations for the Thanedd coup and the Northern Kingdoms' strike at Dol Angra. Episode 10: Finale. Civil War on Thanedd between the Brotherhood of Sorcerers, Geralt almost dies fighting Vilgefortz, the skirmish at Dol Angra. The Second Nilfgaardian War begins and we get a closing shot of Triss and Geralt teleporting to Brokilon. That's clearly enough action and drama for a full season and ends on a banger perfect for a show's finale.

So as a result it seems like all of hollywood is just devoid of talent and decent writing skills, but in reality good writers still exist, they just aren't being hired. and instead we get desperate, insecure ideologues heading shows where they openly dispise the source matieral because _they_ didn't write it, and becuase it doesn't conform to their politics.

I was disappointed in the first minute, because I really like the scene with Geralt and the Professor's goons. "You have a choice, one of you will come out and tell me who hired you. Then you may ride away without any trouble. Or all three of you may come out. I'm waiting." I love that line and it sucks the show doesn't have Geralt speak at all. Also, I think the show writers thought the Professor was an actual professor because he's not carrying a weapon, his goons tell him to stand back, and he begs for his life instead of fighting, even though in the book he's a bandit who is called the Professor because he uses big words, which they got that at least, in the 2 lines he had. I also miss the interaction between Geralt and Vilgefortz at Thanedd, they sort of had it, but really cut down. Vilgefortz telling Geralt about his background and all the different paintings was interesting. The whole Thanedd episode could have been better, I feel like I would have preferred if they stuck to one character's POV for each repeat, like just Geralt's view of the party, just Yennefer, etc, instead of jumping around and retreading old scenes again and again. The song verse "not everything is as it seems" that played everytime was a bit on the nose.

Biggest problem for me once again the distance and traversal. I know that most people don't care about it but there were so many times where they were showing generic city b-roll and I was aching for a title card just to show me where it is. Once again, it was super funny when Geralt basically teleported to save Ciri from the Hunt out of nowhere. This really makes the world feel kind of artificial and fake to me. It really feels like where ever the plot happens, ever person is too. Like, oh yeah Francesca and the Scoiatell are also in this one forest on an entire continent

One of the abrupt character transformations that peeved me during season 2 was Cahir`s. He returned to his kingdom enraged and broken, hating elves who he insulted and picked on. He was also salivating to reclaim his seat of power from Fringila. Then at one point he suddenly became sympathetic towards elves, he talked down the people conspiring to take Fringila during the murder dinner before Fringila appeared. This season we learned the elf-hating Cahir has a close elf friend. Talking about 360 change.

I am a bit disapointed you did not call out how they screwed up the neutrality idea in first episode. In books, neutrality is key to understand Geralt, there is famous quote when he said in Sherawedd to Ciri that "being neutral does not mean to be indifferent or insensitive. You don't have to kill your feelings. All it takes is to kill the hatred in you." Meanwhile, in Netflix they presented this as sth like "neutrality won't give you statue, but will help you to survive". This is outraging simplification or even contradiction of one of the key notions in the books, suggesting that Geralt is neutral in order to survive(!)...

It is not the things they removed or changed that pissed me off the most in general regarding season 3. It was rather that overdose of woke culture politics that they try to force in the show, which believe me, acts in opposite of what they were trying to achieve. People will hate the cause rather than defending it, when they realize it ruined their favorite show. Out of a sudden Dandelion/Jaskier (the most heterosexual dude in the Milky Way galaxy) likes wieners now. "Gerard of the River" somehow became the side chick of Yennefer and Ciri, and the center of attention was totally shifted away from him. I know Marvel and Disney were both butchered by this BS "sTrOnG FeMaLe cHaRaCtErs LeAdEr" woke crap, but the Witcher is even worse when it comes to that. YES it is no longer about Geralt anymore, only Yennefer and Ciri and Body-Positive Laux Antille and Philipa's side chick matter now, which in case someone missed it, is a They/Them Sorcerer or sorceress or sorcereX !! They really have to calm their tits down with this stuff, if they want this show to survive. Cavill left already, also this show is failing now, which is well deserved in my honest opinion as an irrelevant fan of the games. This may make them reconsider some of those stupid decisions and try instead to deliver something FUN

I agree with you on almost everything. I quite liked some scenes, disliked the others. You said you liked Yen being more likeable this season, I disagree, she came across as too soft. But she was perfect at Thanned. I really liked the Thanned episode. The worst character assassination for me is Dijkstra, who plays second fiddle to Philippa, cries while she whips him, and is coming across as quite weak to be quite honest. Still, I am looking forward to part 2.

The whole sorceresses cast is weak. I am not saying actresses are not beautiful, but lack glamour and attractiveness. In the books there is a big focus on how they look and how attractive they are. It may sound ridiculous, but I think this is one of the few instances where modern, artificial beauty would have fitted perfectly. After all, according to the canon, sorceresses are magically modifying their look so it could be seen as an equivalent to the cosmetic surgeries nowadays.

The Witcher Season 3 Review☠️ This wasn't good. As the show has tried to extend its scope and scale it's clear the people making it have a reach that far exceeds their grasp. Everything from pacing, structure, character work, and even the action set pieces feel like rushed first ideas hastily executed and cobbled together to meet a deadline rather than well-honed sequences, scripts, and scenes that have been toiled over and shaped with care and a firm vision for what the show is trying to convey. Plotholes, contrivances, wonky magic systems, empty mysteries, and modern self-aware dialogue are rife, and it feels like a show made out of obligation rather than passion and creative drive. It's such a shame, because while not perfect, the books are excellent, so some of the burden creatively shouldn't be as visible as it is in this show, but this need to do their own thing and sometimes vandalise beloved characters and story beats has only placed more pressure on writers and producers to deliver something they simply aren't capable of. The biggest issue for this season apart from the lack of coherent story telling. Is that they are trying to be something they are not. They are not Game of Thrones, they are not Lord of the rings Rings of Power. S1 opened the world of the Witcher. And by s3, I don't even know what I am watching. There is no focus, just long periods of side stories... boring, CGI is there just to be there. Writing has become lazy. You can see that they don't care about the source material. And you can see they try to add modern values to it... Which makes it even worse. There is a clear lack of understanding from the show runners to the writers room of what makes for competent storytelling. They had good source material, an amazing cast, and world class crew, yet somehow managed to fall into cliche traps (telling instead of showing, character narrating to rush the storytelling process, poor character development). It's like film school freshman read the book report of a failing middle schooler of the Witcher books, then attempted to make something and put their stamp on it rather than respecting the intelligence of their audience. season 3 character arcs & characterization of the Witcher is really bad. its a sad waste of time. they turn GERELT into a side character in his own show. his action scene are good but the show barely focuses on him , which really a shame because Gerelt is a captivating character as always. i thought the writers might have concentrated on his character more but as usual the Witcher writers are clueless. they turn Radovid into an annoying LEX LUTHER type of character from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. the writers turn Emhyr var Emreis, Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies into an incredibly bland boring character. his dialog is the worst. its completely takes you out of the show. Radovid & Emhyr are two of greatest characters & antagonists in The Witcher franchise , [ books , games & anything else ] , so it's really stinks that these characters suck so bad in the show. if you know anything about BLOOD ORIGIN , then you know that Eredin Bréacc Glas the King of the Wild Hunt is kind of a weakling & really non-threatening so that a waste of an antagonist / villain so i don't have any hope of The Witcher tv show being a really cringe but entertaining tv show , but The Witcher tv show its just awful , i don't know how the writers of the show made Thanedd Coup so dull. uninteresting. boring. tedious. tiresome. they tried to make this entire season into GAME OF THRONE lite , it barely resembles Thanedd Coup. As for YENNEFER , she failed to apologize in any meaningful & significance way to GERALT or Cirilla for releasing discount baba Yaga , taking CIRI to cintra to be possessed , YENNEFER doesn't show any guilt for the Witchers who died in KAER MORHEN or anything. YENNEFER does try to shallowly & half-heartedly apologize to GERALT for maybe a couple minutes in one episode if you add the total up but it lacks substance & any type of conviction at all. As for YENNEFER apologizing to CIRI for taking advantage of her trust & getting her possessed , they have a one minute conversation about it. I'm honestly not sure because it went by so fast that I can't even say that's what the conversation was about. Then the writers just hand wave the situation & nobody brings it up again period. As for YENNEFER actions in relation to the plot season 3 , it was established in almost the whole franchise that YENNEFER doesn't care for politics [ in the games YENNEFER only cares in relation to saving other people, in the books YENNEFER is not that good at politics & you get the gist that among the mages of the north Philippa Eilhart & Vilgefortz are excellent at politics by comparison to YENNEFER & she only cares in relation to her magic school or saving someone , even in season one of the show's YENNEFER leaves politics behind her early. So because season 3 focuses on a GAME OF THRONE LITE version of Thanedd Coup YENNEFER character really suffered from the bad writing especially after her character assassination characterization of season 2. YENNEFER costumes are terrible in season 3. its laughable. Philippa Eilhart & Dijkstra were underutilized & don't live up to their characters at all. Vilgefortz is decent but he's going to be the most unsurprising surprise villain ever because the writers have been dropping really unsubtle hints since season one. Vilgefortz killing the mage in season 1 & interrogating Tisseia about CIRI in season 2 gave the surprise away. as for CIRILLA , she's good but she's only half as endearing , charming , engaging & cool as her counterparts in the books & games. I like her a lot & her relationship with GERALT is nice , even if I consider it diminished by all wasted potential opportunities of season 1 & 2. The writers do this really annoying thing with her character where they write themselves into a corner so CIRI will constantly get caught by any & everyone after her , even after GERALT & YENNEFER tell her constantly & repeatedly to be careful & stay safe. It gets irritating after a while. CIRI trains with magic & different ways of fighting for a bit but its so so to me because she gets interrupted repeatedly so I don't think of her as a great fighter. A good one but not outstanding. A problem with her character is that the writers are trying to portray her as a great physical fighter instead of a person who uses agility , flexibility, magic sword menship to kick ass & Freya Allen looks thin & tall , in other words not a strong physical fighter. The other critique I have about CIRI is that in season 3 she's just there , she doesn't really do anything plot wise , CIRI is like the Infinity Stones in Avengers Infinity War an important element of the plot but she's inertia in her actions in the show. Hopefully she does something by the end of season 3. Let's say these 5 episodes have more books stuff than the previous season, but still not enough to call it an adaptation, they just quote the books while they play their horrendous fun fiction, it's boring, bad though, full of inconsistencies, plot holes, and bad dialogues. I'm not interested in watching more of the Swicher. I wouldn't mind if they actually made improvements on the source material but all the so called improvements were even worse than fanfiction. So I'm not interested in Lauren's terrible writing & directing. Besides people have read the article from the CGI &VFX artists , everyone knows she is not adapting the books for Season 3. Lauren is writing something never before seen in the books & the games. So anything Lauren says about following the books is just more lies. People watching Season 3 of the Swicher will just encourage these Netflix Morons to produce more of this trash. I'm not watching the CIRI & YENNEFER show. So if you haven't seen it yet , save yourself from the suffering , if you have seen it. tell me what you think

I watched it and thought it was terrible. I had very low expectations after Henry leaving, and for me it needed to pull a miracle out of the bag to fix the major issue from s2 where Yen was going to sacrifice Ciri. There was some good, but most of it was a combination of shoddy, nonsensical, and boring. And what a terrible cliffhanger given Geralt would never get taken by surprised like that. I was a games fan and so excited for the series. Never read the books until recently and they contain everything they needed for the show if they'd just used the material, the quality is light years ahead of what they put on screen. The parts that adhered to the books are the best parts of the series - as judged before I read the books. Just a crying shame what they did with the IP and I am hoping Netflix just cancel it like they have with far superior shows.

I tend to enjoy this show because I've long given up on it being anywhere near what I wanted it to be and I just pretend it's sort of the Adam West Batman version of The Witcher, and I have to say that I found Fringilla's subplot to be hilarious. Never in a million years would I have guessed that her arc this season would be "Fringilla becomes an alcoholic and develops somewhat of a sense of humor."
