I have been a crocheter (and knitter)for years and you make your granny squares in a unique way. I like this different approach. Usually most don't slip stitch to next corner to start a new round, but seeing you do it I mean it makes the edges look so much nicer. Thanks for showing us this.

Lauren Mccabe - you have your KZitem/Google + settings as such that I couldn't reply directly to your comment. If you're missing a corner gap, I suggest ripping out the previous round (with the mistake) and doing it again. Crochet is quick to work, so it's best to correct your mistakes as you see them!

It's wonderful to know how to both crochet and knit- I learned how to crochet when I turned 9- for my birthday, my mom😍 (she learned from a Norwegian woman🥰) taught me how to crochet- she bought me some yarn and hooks- what a blessing 😇 At age 12, my sister😍 taught me how to knit (sisy learned from our paternal grandmother😍, who later taught me how to tat😍). I learned by throwing the yarn, later learned how to knit continental. 😇🥰😍 These needlework skills are a blessing, and valuable.🥰

When you add a new color, you can do what I demonstrate at 12:40 in the video, and chain with both the working yarn and the tail end to weave it in as you go. Otherwise, if you're working with wool, you can just weave it in any ol' way, and it should stick. If you're working with a different fiber, watch my video called "Knitting Help - Weaving in Cotton Ends" which will demonstrate how to secure non-animal fiber ends. (Sorry, KZitem won't let me give you a link here in the comments.)

Thank you for the note. I don't know of any "knitting for crocheter" video series, but I can tell you this - my basic knitting videos are appropriate for beginners, whether or not you have a history of crochet. In fact, I find that lifelong crocheters are quick studies when it comes to knitting. Having the dexterity to maintain tension on the yarn is a big jumpstart! :)

If you don't change colors, you can start in the gap closest to where you end. "Chain up", and start anywhere, remembering to put two clusters in each corner and one cluster in each of the side gaps.

Vinny - yes, granny squares can be worked the way you describe, and it creates a different look. Even though the front and back of granny squares are very similar, the way I describe creates a puffier "right" side, and a flatter "wrong" side. By turning the work each round, puffier and flatter rounds alternate throughout the square.

1. You could put cut holes at regular intervals along the edge of the fleece about a centimeter(half an inchish) and crochet it on. Just insert hook into a stitch on blanket edge and through a hole on the fleece, pull up a loop, pull yarn through, and chain 2, and half double crochet through the edge stitches of the blanket and holes on the fleece all the way around. 2. You could use a sewing machhine(or by hand) and sew it on.

Recently learnt to knit during lockdown (still only on the patterns made of knit, purl, slip, yarn over but progressing slowly). May spend some of my summer break learning crochet. Ok tried crocheting these up. Not used to the yarn in my left hand but made it to 3 rows (excluding the initial chain) not really working the hook as I should but practice makes things better. Perhaps some less bulky yarn would be better.

You don't want to just cut the ends short- there is a danger of unraveling if you do. You want to take a big, blunt-ended sewing needle (called a tapestry needle) and weave in the end into the back of the work for a bit. Then you can cut it short. Good luck!

If you're following the pattern correctly, it will make a perfect square - but as you're making it, it can be wonky. You can get it into the correct shape by washing and blocking it when you're finished. That means washing it in wool soap, and setting it out flat to dry in the shape you want it.
@verypinkknits

Staci, I've recently entered a crochet binge and have been rewatching your terrific Crochet for Knitters series. I've become obsessed with granny squares and also with the linen/woven/seed/moss stitch in crochet (sorry, I don't remember which term you used!) I have been trying to figure out how to combine the two, changing colors on every round and avoiding the dread twisted center. I may be overthinking this. The squares I want to crochet would have 5 rounds, 5 colors, constructed with linen stitch rather than granny clusters, and 2 chain spaces to define the corners.. Do I really need to worry about twisted centers or turning the work at the end of each row with that many color changes? It looks like you've avoided the twist in your large, single-square blanket. I can take this question to Facebook if you'd prefer.
