The seed stitch is also known as the woven stitch, linen stitch and moss stitch. You only need to know how to crochet single crochet (sc) and chain stitches (ch) for this project.
I begin working my scarf with one row of single crochet and I end my scarf in the same way. You can alternately work directly into your foundation chain with the seed stitch pattern. I just don't like how it leaves the holes/spaces on the ends of the fabric - the choice is yours though!
The stitch multiple is 2 - meaning you need to chain a multiple of 2 chains to begin. If you are adding the seed stitch to an already started project you will need a multiple of 2+1 stitches available.
For the sample (and the scarf) you begin by chaining 20 chains.
I used Yarnspirations, Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes and a 6 mm (J) crochet hook for my scarf. You can use any yarn and hook combination you want - simply chain to the width project you want and make sure you have an even number of chains then begin the project as demonstrated. Then continue until you have the length project you want (my scarf was about 57 inches long) and add that 1 final row of single crochet.
Have fun!
