Robert Dixon used the name ‘Cronulla’. The use of Kurranulla’ or ‘Karranulla’ appeared at various times later on.
Common suggested Aboriginal meanings of place names is uncertain and indecisive.
‘Hospital Wharf’, still known by that name is not the main one at Gunnamatta Bay. There are various thoughts as to the origin of the wharf's name.
Cronulla Surf Club was formed in 1908 not 1907.
Maroubra was the first national surfing reserve, not Cronulla.
