To me, the NC is the clear winner. Many of the owners brought up price. Hands down the best bang for your buck is NC2 or NC3. While the NA/NB are beautiful in their own right, they aren't daily drivers from a safety standpoint. I see them more as collectible cars&coffee cars, not something I want to drive 50+ miles a day in or travel 800 miles on a road trip. The ND is nice don't get me wrong, but the RF isn't a true hardtop convertible and has blind spots. Also electric steering rack vs hydraulic and 5 iterations of a manual transmission. Not to mention paying $20k+ for an ND2 vs $15k for a spec'd out GT NC3 that is 90% of the car the ND is. I will say the ND does look better and the gas mileage is awesome. I also will say the ND seats are some of the best I have been in. But I also know I pride price/reliability and the NC2/3 does it for half the price and still gives you the analog feel the NB had along with the speed necessary to commute with the 200hp+ cars driving next to you. The NC offers practicality, safety, handling, and a glove compartment. But ultimately, the right Miata is really based on what your needs and plans are for the car. They each are unique in their own way.

I had almost the exact same thought process as the ND owner here. I was looking for a car that was fun to drive, relatively inexpensive, naively thought "hey, NA/NB/NC, should be easy to find one at a decent price" but quickly found out that NAs are recent classics and command those prices, NBs have mostly been driven into the ground as the cheap tuner for the last 5 years or they're priced high for a good one, and NCs are just above the price point I'd consider for a car at their age...ended up with a 23 RF Club and I couldn't be more happy about it. It is so much fun.

I keep going back to the NC because it's more roomy, it's a great road trip car, and my wife doesn't hate sitting the the passenger seat. I loved my ND but the infotainment system is really slow and quirky, the passenger room is awful, and the lack of storage always makes me go for the NC. Never drove an NC / NB or NA before. When I was looking at fun roadsters was the 1st week of March 2017. Watched a KZitem review on the new ( at the time ) 2017 Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth that had just come out. Mazda also had just started to deliver the new RFs. So one sunny day after work I stopped by the Alfa Romeo / Fiat dealer & test drove a 2017 Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth. I thought by the video review that this car would impress me. It didn't ! Things that were deal breakers were the heavy clutch feel / the notchy shifter & the turbo lag that killed throttle response. So the next day it was cold & drizzling but still went to the Mazda dealer & out in front was a 2016 MX-5 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package setup the same way that 2017 Fiat Abarth. It drove completely different. Super light clutch feel / Naturally Aspirated engine with instant throttle response. Really liked the car so much I bought it ! Those RFs were coming off the transport trucks SOLD before they were even unloaded into the dealer lot. I think the soft top was the way to go & 7+ years this car is still really fun to drive !

I have owned an NB SE, and driven a turbo NA, and stock NC. Out of those three I'd say the NC is gonna be the best for long road trips because it's the larger, more substantial miata. If all you care about is that go kart sensation, I'd probably recommend the NA. The NB Is that in between car that compromises between both aspects, although similar to the NA when it comes to highway cruising because of the low power and short gearing. I also owned a BMW Z3, and to be honest I would probably take that car again over either of the pre-ND miatas as having that straight six and BMW quality is something to get used to. They're all fantastic cars but if it's your only vehicle/dail driver, I'd definitely go for the NC just because of the extra room and reliability. Nice video 👍

I did choose an NC 1, and my main reason was the price point, the only one with the prht (and not an rf) so without roof, but not targa top. Also the NC is much safer I would say, because it has built in roll bar and side air bags, where the other 2 generations in the budget does not.

Ultimately when I returned home it was nice to stretch back out in my NC. Riding as an ND passenger is not something I would want to do for more than an hour, the footspace is really quite awkward... Does that matter on track day, of course not, but if it's your only daily and you have a significant other I would strongly urge you to decide with your head and not your serotonin. I did order the ND shift knob for my NC though, that leather ball felt great in hand and will match my Cipher steering wheel nicely.

didn't watch the video NC2/3 (the little improvements throughout are worth it over the NC1) is the best. its not a noodle of a chassis like the NA/NB and has a decent enough engine to not feel anemic like the NA/NB. Also not nearly as heavy as most people make it out to be, trim for trim, feature for feature, its within a hundred lb except for the really early models. modern chassis and engine more than make up for the slight weight gain. But its still old enough to be analog, has hydraulic powersteering, fully defeatable traction control, room to fit bigger tires than the power/weight justifies. electric powersteering is the main thing that ruins the ND for me, it affects the way the whole car feels.

Why in the world would you buy anything but an ND! You would be absolutely crazy!! I have had them all and why go back in time on anything else? Nothing even comes close to ND

ND offers the best performance for sure but if you’re budget conscious the NC is a great choice plus it has more room for the taller guys.

All our reasoning was in the film! The ND transmission can't seem to handle more power, the interior is just a bit cramped, and no retractible hardtop were the main deal breakers for me personally. But I know plenty of very happy ND owners!

@@FlywheelFilms, there are no issues with ND2 transmission or else for the last 5 years for me and my buddies in the ND2 Club, despite doing plenty of track-days. I cannot understand the complaints coming from non-owners.

Hello Flywheel films from England. I was wondering if you could help me if you know, are the NC club black headlights available to buy in the USA and will they work on a RHD car? They aren't available in England, not even from Mazda.

Genuine question, can you still get those mazdaspeed kit for the NC? If so from where?
@FlywheelFilms

You cannot from Mazda, secondhand is the easiest way, or you could buy a replica from a retailer like Carbon Miata

@@FlywheelFilms cheers. Loving your channel by the way. I’ve yet to get my mx5 but the time is closing in and I’m lucky enough to live in the land of BBR so it will be fun. Also, the more I look and the more I don’t understand why the NC isn’t the most sought after of them all granted the NA of course has a special place in everyone’s heart.

This describes the demographic of owners / models very well. Nc/nd buyers have money. NA is a hit and miss. Either no money or it’s got 15k miles and is pristine. Majority of NB owners are broke. Except maybe the Mazdaspeed boys. It’s not fair to hop out of a budget stock NB where cost was the main purchase decision and into an engine swapped throw a bunch of money at parts NC. NA is the best Miata but worst car. Nd is the best car but worst Miata. NB is a more complete NA. NC is a more analogue ND.

The Miata community has come around on the NC similarly to how the MR2 community came around on the ZZW30

The one you’re driving is the best for you. I had a ‘91 NA while I lived in HK for five years - perfect for Hong Kong. Sold it because I needed a bigger car (having multiple cars in HK is challenging, mostly because of parking). A dozen years later, moving back to the US, needed a car during late Covid when few were available. Looked at a number, but decide on an NC2 PRHT Club. For me, great car - capable pretty much anywhere, including a long highway stint. Attended the FM Summer Camp - about 5200 miles round trip from Connecticut, with a bike on the back - was not the least bit disappointing. Traveled solo, which probably makes it easier. Happy with mine, with FM Fox suspension; waiting for their NC turbo kit. Honestly, the only time I really felt I needed, rather than wanted, a turbo - was heading up and over the Rockies from Denver to Grand Junction and vice versa. Also have a stock Mazdaspeed3 for when I really want to feel the rush of boost.

I think the NC is the best looking, kinda looks like an S2000. I don't like the back of the ND, looks like a toy, Mazda should of done a better job with the rear, looks ridiculous.
