I remember when the old signalbox was operational before the RETB signalling took over an me and my butty Mike (we were both Train Drivers, now long retired) were invited up into the old signal box by Jimmy, the signalman, who was a real character to exchange railway banter. The 360 degree views from inside the box were absolutely spectacular... what a fabulous place to work... I also remember encoutering "Dave the Juggernaught" by the railway bridge shown in your video, who was carrying the biggest rucksack I'd ever seen before or since... it was at least 100 litres... he was completely buggered and he put his rucksack down when he spoke to us.... He had a ghetto blaster and loads of cans of food/drink in his rucksack, and everthing but the kitchen sink, it being his first, and probably last expedition to the Highlands... I almost felt sorry for him. We stayed in the SYHA, where we encoutered a large stag, complete with huge antlers loitering outside.... Tom, the Manager explained that he was very old and had lost most of his teeth, so was thus reliant on people feeding him, hence him becoming tame(ish)... We were told that he later had to be shot, as he would obviously be unable to feed himself in the winter. Tom the manager, who was in his 60's, was well known for inviting all comers to race him round the forestry track circling Loch Ossian... Memories, memories... now my knees are knackered, so no more galavanting around the highlands carrying 65lb rucksacs (as weighed on the scales at Abergavenny Station) for me...

Brilliant Murray, really enjoyed. Walked up the section from loch Ossian to do the Corbett’s by the bothy and really enjoyed but wasn’t so boggy, looked a bit of a nightmare coming down on the bike. Drove Glen Lyon last year to its end point such a beautiful Glen although think I would prefer a bike to navigate some of the narrow windy sections at the east end. Fully agree about Glen Almound, another wonderful Glen, choose that as a route up onto Auchnafree hill, I guess the one where you had brake issues. Cheers, Paul

I whizzed past you on my bike in Glen Almond on Sunday morning as you took a break. I was on my way to climb Beinn na Gainimh, with a much lighter load. I'm hugely impressed with the distance and ascent you did on the first two days (the height of Ben Nevis each day) carrying that enormous load!

Another great video Murray and excellent planning for an Easter weekend. It's definitely a coast to coast. I had a year of doing multiple biking C2Cs and counted Fort William to Inverness as one of them (Montrose to Skye was better though and no contention as to whether it is a C2C). Getting the weight off your back is very important for bike packing. I'd recommend getting a frame bag. It's surprising just how much you can pack into them. I got one from Alpkit (they build to fit the specific space of your frame). Very handy for quick access to drone/camera gear that will also be well protected. I'd also recommend a large seat pack rather than panniers as it keeps the bike balanced and easier to ride, particularly at speed over rough terrain. No easier to lift over a gate but more fun to ride.

Hey Murray, watch your KZitem posts religiously. Inspiring stuff, we are predominantly cyclists who like to walk occasionally, but you certainly highlight Scotland’s beauty!! We cycled loch Laggan to Corrour station last year directly as a result of your cycling trip (and revisited Ardverikie estate recently) for another cycling adventure. This video has taken hours to watch as I’ve paused so often to check your route on Komoot, and have planned a number of routes for us to attempt over the spring months. Really appreciate the additional effort you put in to the filming side of things in order to bring the wilds of Scotland to our screen and perhaps more importantly, kick our butts into action to do it for ourselves!! Great stuff. Keep up the good work, im ever hopeful we’ll bump into you someday, swap an outdoors story and discuss good drams 🥃. Thanks again 👍🏻
