I really really want Peter Jackson to make this as a full length movie now. This trailer whetted my appetite. I'm convinced that if anyone could make the definitive World War One epic of our time, it is him. It's been too long since we've had a proper, decent WW1 movie.

Glad to see someone produce a WWI film as I would (what I've seen in this clip anyway). My brother and I tried to get financing for years for ours but maybe some day it will happen. It's awesome that there is no computerized dogfight. I cringed when "Fly Boys" came out. Disgustingly unreal. I hope all of the dogfight scenes in this film are all realistic here where the faces are oily, dirty and injesting kerosine, we hear the engines sputtering and on/off for speed control and such. We all know

Just to be clear, it was "shot" in two days, not produced in two days. In other words, it took a much longer time to setup, cast, rehearse, obtain/build props, set up blocking for shots, all the post production involved, etc.. In other words, it took a lot longer than two days to complete. So, future filmmakers, don't be discouraged that you couldn't do something like this someday. Don't give up.

Pete Jackson made this short film in just a couple of days to demonstrate the capabilities of the RED ONE camera. It's a promotion for the equipment, not a history lesson; stop fretting over the 'tropical' sky and patches of grass that may not be historically accurate. After all, it's pretty amazing just how cool this looks, considering the shooting schedule.

I agree that's it's always interesting that MAJORITY of these movies is about the Americans who always show up late in the war, and the movie almost portrays them winning the WHOLE war, when in fact they just more or less finished it. I would like to see more British, French, Canadian, and Austrailian based story line.

No Mans land is a term for the distance between trenches, it wasn't a specific place. If you look at some of the colour photographs from WW1 you will see that a lot of the time, it was fairly green. The sky is just bright blue, which wouldn't be that rare in France. Also it looks like NZ because it was filmed there...the whole film was shot with two cameras, prototype Red Ones. The owners asked Jackson to make a basic film with no script, they recieved this, WETA, pyrotechnics, etc.

I love how THE Red Test Shoot was a short film...Peter Jackson doesn't do "Test" Shoots, he just does a short and calls it a test. It is a great camera though. Even though it has a lot of obstacles to overcome. It's super fun to use, and the footage you get from even 2k is incredible. I'm not even going to go into 4k...ahhh....orgasm. lol

@Pwn9Gaming No, it wasn't filmed in 28k, this was actually the first film to be shot on a RED ONE, an alpha version of the camera in fact. The camera had not been released at this time and the alpha model could just do 4k, at 24fps. This short was shown at the camera's launch expedition. And btw the Epic can do 5k at 48fps, not 28k...Look up RED on Wikipedia :)

And Fridomfry, the French were on the brink of open rebellion against their high command. Their troops openly refused to attack any German positions, which was a key component in the failure of the allies to bring any conclusive end to the war. To end the war it would have cost the allies more men than it was worth. A peace treaty was the best choice for all, the German's just had less to bargain with.

Planning for it probably took longer then 2 days but the actual test film shoot took only 2 days, March 30 and 31, 2007 in Masterton, New Zealand. Remember we are talking about Peter Jackson here, not some amateur film shooter or junior director, nope were talking about high end seasoned pro in the movie business. Next time do your research before you tell someone they don't know what they are talking about, you might find out they actually do indeed know what they are talking about.

While the pre-production would of taken a bit beforehand I can assure you it was filmed in TWO days as I watched it being filmed.

@HengistR The problem with Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan is that none of the forces that we are fighting there have an organized formal army. Unlike European wars, where there were rules, most of the fighting in this era is unconventional guerrilla warfare. We are not the only country fighting in these areas; please be respectful to the troops for all that they do. My brother just got back from Afghanistan and one of my closest friends just went to Iraq; it's no picnic.

@SNFozzy919 Ah a sensible question if not a common one here and luckily an answer to it surfaced not to long ago. Ok the 1st part of the trailer is taken from a part of "Its Deserted" from the King Kong soundtrack by James Newton Howard ( I do believe if you start playing the song around 1:50 into it you'll hear the clip used in this trailer) the next track used in the trailer is "Dethroned" (I think its from the Instrumental version) by X Ray Dog. Enjoy

I think it's Beauty Killed the Beast part five. This is when Kong is dieing on the ESB and falls. The scene shifts to the aircraft flying past the falling Kong. Another thing it reminds me of is the trailer PJ released prior to the official trailer. It starts soft and then crescendos just like it does at about 1:35. The music is exactly like the trailer at that point. THAT part (after 135) IS on the trailer.

Those are all valid points, however, i believe the purpose of this little film was to show off a new type of camera. And it's really just action for action's sake, with a small story. They don't think of how things work, so long it looks good. :)

You might want to get a bit more info on this before you say something like that. This is not so much of a movie as it is a camera test, its 15 mins long and was shot in just 2 days. It has a simple plot which mainly focuses on providing entertainment rather then facts regarding WWI which is the setting theme. After all, it was just a camera test but Peter Jackson decided to make it a epic camera test. You misplace expectations with this short film since you view it as more then it is

Sorta curious about a couple things: Why does it seem that there's just a nonstop shoot out at the trenches before the brit charges? Why is there an artillery piece completely exposed at the front trench? Why does the German sniper somehow not notice the gigantic, slow moving tank, until he looks down his scope at it Why isn't the tank knocked out or broken down yet (75% of all allied tanks committed to an assualt were destroyed or broken down within 48 hours.)

From what I've heard this was his only WWI film and this was really just him testing out some new digital cameras XD. The whole film was shot in New Zealand in just 2 days 0_o;;. 15mins or not 2 days is pretty amazing given the obvious effort and care he put into making the short. Ok so perhaps the film isn't totally accurate on a historical note, but then again factor in the fact that this was just test for some new cameras and it shouldn't be a prob. I mean he did a lot just for a camera test

i have my own personal opinions why the US can make films but it would just create a political feud, its just that Spielberg wanted Saving Private Ryan for Americans, especially for the veterans of WW2, now films like Avatar was widely accepted was because of the graphics and there was no nationality bias even though, the characters except for the navi were aliens, also there is the language barrier and culture barrier

@damnthisthin I agree, but unfortunatley to make good movies requires a lot of money, of which few people are going to contribute mostly because the ones who do have money move to the US, and the US has the best movie making studio in the world. The government doesn't so much make bad quality as much as bad funding, thus there is no competition.

Well I said Shoot meaning the time it took to record the images, which was two days. As for preparation time, which I wasn't talking about, he could have very easily timed the shoot with a WWI re-enactment day. If they didn't do that, I doubt a few planes would have taken months to get considering how much money Peter Jackson has. Either way it doesn't matter how long it took to prepare, it still took two days to shoot.

But you forget one fact in your last sentence: Germany was never defeated in that war. They were forced to a unfair peace, which should turn out to be fatal for the further history. Sure we both know that Germany would have lost earlier or later anyway do to a lack of resources..maybe in 1920....Salut

hardly naive, my pretentious chum. It was a failure on part of the generals not to adapt their tactics - but many of them were so far in the rear to begin with that they couldn't fully see the devastation their decisions had such as the British at the Somme & Paschedale. Many of the French eventually mutinied against the insane orders of their high command. Interestingly enough it was the Germans who changed their tactics first with stormtroopers & smaller attack groups but it was too late.

Be great if he did make a true movie about WW1. The best representation I've seen of WW1 is a French war movie called 'Les Croix de bois ' made in 1932. Aside from this film, no movie has captured the mud and blood and true scale of the industrially mechanized carnage that typifies this war and the utter bravery of those fighting. Sentimentality had nothing to do with WW1. Read 'Storm of Steel' by Ernst Junger and you'll know what I mean.
