If you don't have exposure to others experiences and humour, how can you judge what's appropriate and what could possibly hit too close to home? I don't want to traumatise people with jokes that remind them of shit they're still having panic attacks and waking up fearing for their lives over. We don't play helicopter sounds around ex soldiers and nobody bats an eye about that. There's plenty of funny shit that doesn't cause that for anyone.
@nebulamask81
4 жыл бұрын
Eddie T Dead "We don't play helicopter sounds around ex soldiers" I don't know where you're from but we certainly do here in the states, as well as fly overs, guns being shot, esp. at events to honor and celebrate soldiers. What we don't do is just not have events all at the detriment of everyone else because seeing or hearing something might trigger some one. "There's plenty of funny shit that doesn't cause that for anyone" There is literally not a single joke that doesn't have a target or something in it that could trigger some one. Even something as mundane as why did the chicken cross the road has the listener as the target and implies their stupidity. What if some one got beat up as a child for not getting that joke and it causes a panic attack? We can't have that according to your logic now could we. How about instead of worrying about every possible thing that might trigger some one... if some one has these sorts of issues, they work on them with their health care provider and not go to places where there is a high likely hood of getting triggered. If jokes trigger you... don't go to a damn comedy club. If some one just doesn't like the joke/event/whatever, they can just leave.

I love this series concept, I think it’s really interesting and impactful. I just wish there was more POC representation in these as the most interesting part is seeing people you’d assume to be offended by something, not be and vice versa

This sums up as "don't mock the victims, mock the bullies and bullying itself". If you know the community, you're able to make better jokes because you will know how to give the power back to the victims. Laugh WITH people, not AT people.

Can't believe I never heard of this series. Only had a look because I was going through list of Screen Australia funding recipients. This was a deserving use of funding. Format should be refined and be like a You Can't Ask That/Goggle Box style hybrid show on ABC for offensive humour

7:32 what the hell does "physically emotionally attacked" mean?
@alexsims31
4 жыл бұрын
Certain groups of people lately have been pushing to include words as a form of physical violence. Which to some degree I can understand because listening to them talk is like having your ears raped.
@nicomoist5336
4 жыл бұрын
Well, theres already a few words already considered physical violence. Threatening and telling someone to kill themselves. Becuz that's a hell of a lot of people being told that when they're part of the rainbow fam.
@ThinWhiteAxe
4 жыл бұрын
I would guess that means one has been attacked both physically and emotionally (which is kind of redundant, a physical attack would also be emotionally traumatic), unless he's just a woke snowflake exaggerating a mean thing someone said to "physical" emotional "attack" to make it sound worse, which seems likely.

Such victim mentality, they just cant get over the fact that some has said something bad to them. I have heard alot of shit for years because of my religion, nationality, but I havent really just kept that with my life instead move on, learn that other than behaving like victims your whole damn life.
@Ignasimp

I've been insulted for my religion and my sexual orientation more or less equally. But, in my case the gay insults were actually worse because it was something that I hadn't chosen, and at that moment didn't even accept it. My religion was something I wanted so it was easyer to defend myself from insults directed to that part of me. I don't think this has to apply to others. But is how I see it happend to me. Now that I accept my own sexuality I can lough at gay jokes and I don't feel as insulted by most gay-related insults.
@marcus_johnson
3 жыл бұрын
Let's not argue about what oppression is worse. Let's instead agree that insults are bad and that it is ok to acknowledge that they are. You're not necessarily painting yourself as a victim for that reason.

I feel like being accepted in society also requires you to be made fun of. If you arnt allowed to make fun of a group because of X reason you are treating them differently. Placing them in a box that has stipulations when interacting. That is excluding that group in my eyes.

Comedy at its core, is somebody getting a kick up/in the ass, and being edgy or not, is just turning up the temperature. And some people just can't take the heat, or don't have good enough skin to handle it. So it's not the people who are telling the joke, it's you who cannot handle it, and I recommend avoiding it if you can't deal with it, rather then call it something it isn't or getting mad, or personally attacked.
