Time for a fun fact or two. OK KO's creator is Ian James-Quarterly, who is married to Rebecca Sugar (they got married in 2019). Rebecca even sang the ending songs to both shoes: "Love Like You" for Steven Universe, and "Thank You For Watching The Show" for OK KO.

Just because a bunch of people online (primarily outside the show’s target demographic btw) complain about TTG, doesn’t mean that the show is “underrated.” It’s been running for over 10 years and is popular with CN’s child audience. Conversely, having a few above average episodes and random out of context clips doesn’t suddenly make the show a “gem” either. TTG largely sucks and the hate it got years ago was completely justified.

Recently, My favorite videogame Series: Fire Emblem, Released Fire Emblem Engage this year and it never puts effort as to why the heroes in the past titles were in the game, but it did feel cool that the final boss has you fighting previous Final bosses of the series. According to Ian James-Quarterly, the weird animation style of “OK K.O.” was heavily influenced by shows from the ‘90s like AoStH, “Rocko’s Modern Life”, and the 1st season of “The Simpsons”. For all the people who complain about modern cartoons lacking consistency in animation, they clearly didn’t grow up with shows like those.
@Goku14635

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Rocko’s Modern Life are actually well drawn. Barring that, cartoons are generally supposed to have more technical skill applied to the drawings as time goes along, not stagnate visually and/or be sloppily drawn for their entire run. Having those shows as influences is one thing, but it’s a completely different thing to not even attempt to refine the visuals of your own cartoon in some way, shape, or form as it progresses.

(It definitely didn't help how it was compared to the previous Teen Titans series, but it wasn't that good even without comparisons back then). @@Chris-jx4ij No episode attacked the majority of the audience or the target audience. They attacked the vocal minority of critics in a hilarious and poigniant way. People like MrEnter love meta commentary (as evidensed by this very review) when it's by a show that they aren't already extremely biased against and when it isn't targeted at them. The writers hilariously trolled angry critics to get exactly the expected reaction again and again to the point where it can be considered publicity stunts. CN overplayed it because it was popular and had many episodes. Same thing with Nick and Spongebob. That says nothing about the show's quality. It only proves my point that it's actually a successful and beloved show (by its target demographics). Comparisons with TT are stupid. They are different genres entirely. TTG isn't even a reboot of the 2003 show, but rather a comedy that takes place in the DC universe and uses the Teen Titans comic characters that existed for four decades before that. I think it's a much better show than the 2003 one because it excells at what it does and is much more entertaining and memorable to me, while the 2003 show is massively overshadowed by other action cartoons as well as action anime, which it tries to mimic.

If you want another show that constantly references stuff but makes it it’s own thing, I recommend The Venture Bros since it just finished recently. It started as a Johnny Quest parody to the point they had characters show up before being retroactively made proxies but around Season 3 it really takes off and becomes something it’s own world while still having nudges and winks here and there. Both the creators are huge nerds and it shows so you can tell it’s genuine and not just a Member Berry festival/case of referencing something just to riff on it for being weird.

Oh, I have GOT to see this episode. Growing up, Cartoon Network was my go-to channel (I definitely watched Nickelodeon and Disney Channel, but I tended to check Cartoon Network first). I remember the CN City era the most, and to this day hearing the Friday Nights theme song (which I read is featured in the background at one point in the episode) puts me in a good weekend mood. I just kinda wish that they were able to fit in more references. I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth (and credit where credit is due, what they DO fit in is a LOT and is no doubt impressive), but I can't help but be a little disappointed that acquired programming (Hanna-Barbera shows and imported foreign shows) didn't get a mention, especially considering that CN City often paid homage to Hanna Barbera properties the network owned. It also would've been cool to see a reference to CN Real, however brief and tongue-in-cheek it might've been (I mean, yeah, I hate that era of Cartoon Network too, but it's part of the network's history, for better or worse). Heck, it might've been neat to see references to Toonami and Adult Swim as well. But I'm nitpicking. I still would love to see this homage. Forget Butch Hartman; Cartoon Network created by childhood.

I have a theory of what this worlds version of CN City is supposed to represent. It's a form of resting grounds. A place where characters from CN worlds go when their stories have ended. Wither it be organically or cut short, they all eventually end up there. Also maybe bits of their world are absorbed and incorporated into the city like the Sector V Tree House, Townsvile City Hall, and Finn and Jakes tree house. Or maybe they're replica's made for when these characters arrive because we do see Gar's Bodega (The place from KO's World) in the wide shot of CN City when it's restored. Fanservice is fine as long as it isn't used as an excuse for mediocre storytelling. The Spider-Verse movies are examples of good fanservice. Ready Player One is the opposite.

I feel like this show gained a cult following after it aired in the same way something like Futurama exploded after Adult Swim picked it up, but at the time it was just considered an annoying TTG copy or something.

You made me think this would be a teen titans go episode and that it’s one of the show’s very few good episodes.

It's a shame this special got cut short, and was overshadowed by a stupid Teen Titans Go marathon.
