This video is of a side pipe exhaust setup with cut outs that we had made and installed to take full advantage this 500HP range crossram equipped 390 engine. By using full 3" mandrel bend pipe and 3" side pipe inlet and outlets off Doug 1 3/4 full length headers, we were able to take advantage of the engine's full power which is scary powerful coming on as low at 2000 RPM and immediately breaking away our fairly new 235/60/15 shop tires under even light throttle. If you add up the bends in the pipe, there are basically the same number of bends as having the tail pipes go over the rear axles so there is zero no power loss at all from this setup compared to a regular system with rear tail pipe exits. Moreover, it you want zero restriction, the 3" cutouts are just a switch away from opening with zero back pressure. The owner never plans to bring the engine up past 5500 RPM and the engine's Herbert Roller cam with Johnson roller lifters with our custom fabricated cam button provide neck snapping instant power at normal driving RPM ranges. The engine rips through first gear so fast that the second gear shit come up very quick even with the fairly modest 3.54 rear end ratio. Overall, the car is turning out really nice. We are still fiddling with the outlets to get them pointed just right but regardless of where they are pointing, they sound amazing. New wheels and tires go on just before we return the car to the customer in a couple of more weeks.
