I had a magpie with a broken wing living in my garden. Its wing had been run over by a car but it healed and although it couldn't fly it could climb trees and lived for about 3 months before dying from eating some kind of poison. In that time with no ability to fly it had courted another magpie successfully and would probablky have gone on to breed. The corvids are astonishingly resilient and resourceful.

We live on the edge of a canyon in San Diego. About 10 years ago, we had a crow with deformed wings. It would walk around and try to fly, but it could not. Its mother would stay near it and fly up in the trees to get it to fly up, but it could never get off the ground. It stayed around here for about one week, then it was gone. A dog or a cat probably got it. About five years ago, I went out to water the lawn. The crows immediately started to squawk, then they would fly near my head and then swoop down into the canyon. After a few minutes, I went to the edge of the canyon to see what the problem was. I thought that they might have trapped a hawk or an owl. When I looked down into the canyon, I saw a mountain loin about fifty feet down the edge. He saw me and got up an just trotted off like I was bothering him. I turned off the water, went back into the house and felt glad he was not hungry. The crows were trying to warn me that the mountain loin was there, I am sure of that.

Aw you I found a wild city pigeon with one wing last summer & now pegwing lives in my bedroom I'm lucky my husband is also an animal lover to be honest if he hadn't been when we met it would have been a deal breaker, I just spent 17 quid on a large bag of pigeon food they only eat a teaspoon full a day but I couldn't get a smaller amount, but there's ring neck turtil doves nesting out our back there very rare here in the wild & they already know that I will feed them so it will get used.... Pegs wing was already gone when I found her, and it took weeks of getting to know her to find out she is a she, we're nearly sure.... Now & she has learned to trust us, when I first picked her up she taught I wanted to eat her, our cat was a kitten when we got peg & now there BFF s its gas watching them play ushdi is so gentle with peg, she has killed wild birds but has respect for peg & her one working wing that she can give you a good slap with.. Poor bird dreams of flying so we tied balloons to a fruit bag like a carrier pigeon would have but once up she could only go around in circles.. It was funny...

There is nature and its cycle of life and death. A door we must all pass through one day but's there's all so love and caring for all things living and the love in their eyes when you give a helping hand and ask or expect nothing from them We see in all the time thanks to the age of computers from a lion or big cat that befriends a dog or other animal that in the wild he would or may have killed to live and it's so nice to see things like this. There was the Eagle that had lost one of its wings from being shot the fish & wildlife- the officer would take him all around the schools when out of the blue the close call of a dog chase his owner off the cliffs while hang gliding gave birth to an idea and yes the dog was ok It gave the dog's owner an ideal which in part gave the wildlife officer an ideal as well for he was in the sport of hang gliding as well He made a harness that would hold the Eagle in place and keep him safe at the same time Taking him as he went flying and after years with this great bird, he said how after the first flight with him the Eagle had a look in his eyes or look at him like he had never seen before. For the Eagle new he would never fly or fill the wing over his face as he once did when he took to the skies as free as one can be riding the wind and he had a new life and friendship and was able to fly as he once did. Yes, there will always be death in our path as we walk each day but it's just so nice or kind to help those that need it. Who knows someday it could be you that can not fly or walk and save from death's door. I once found a small dog that had been hit and took her to the vet, no one claimed her so Lucky found a home with me and raise more that one baby kitten, It was so funny to watch at times as cats like dogs will fight each other and when she heard them it was all over as mom would be on the spot and with just one or two barks the fight would stop she was quite a little mother And pound for pound any one of those full grown cats could have had her for lunch as they say but to them she was the mom, and they knew it. Just a note to thank on as we should all be so lucky as to have someone pick us up from pure death when out wing is broken
