My impression is that both foods were acceptable with different crows having preferences.

I think you are right. I have also noticed one crow picking at food A while the other crow picks at food B. Another commentor thought this might reflect dominance. I am working on a way to distinguish each crow individually as this would help sort out who is dominant.

Great camera angles! The corvids here in SoCal love them some quail eggs, raw or boiled. These birds are so underrated. It’s a crime there’s still no standard crow emoji.

I give my crows peanuts in the shell and they love them. I gave them some large soft pretzels left over from my Octoberfest party and they loved them so now I occasionally buy them rolls as well.

I read that other birds like ducks are more effected, and that crows can pretty much eat anything and do just fine. They have indestructible guts!

a bag of dog food, some oats , some pre shelled sunflower seed. Salt is horrible for corvids, it can kill them, oh course they will go for bacon, but you are a human with internet, you know better.

My family of 4 crows get Whiskas dry cat food and raw peanuts in the shell…. They’ve swooped down to examine it, and ultimately opted to hunt the local parking lots for something better instead- and yea man, it hurts my feelings a little bit- but they always return to collect whatever I left out by the time the sun starts to set, and they return home to Odin. There’s always 2-3 waiting in the lower tree limbs of the gumball tree outside my bedroom window “crowing” for me every morning at sunrise like roosters. My best friend insists that I would be burned as a witch if it were the 1600’s…. but I don’t care how creepy they look perched on my roof or parlaying in in my front yard. They’re highly intelligent and self sufficient annnnd I can keep them as pets and learn their personalities….. while they ultimately get to remain FREE. They never have crapped around my house or on my car and they keep the mockingbirds away. They have also befriended my dog, and like to observe him, which is kind of cute. * They don’t let me get any closer than about 5-8 ft. They still perch on branches above my head, but I’ve had dreams that they’ve eaten directly from my hand…. Maybe one day they’ll trust me enough for that. I encourage everyone to feed birds, except pigeons…. They’re disgusting pests. No offense to the pigeon-lovers. Lol ** My crow fam’s all time favorite “human leftovers” are rotisserie chicken scraps…. They go beserk when I leave it out for them. I usually save the legs, back and the wings just for them…. But they take the whole chicken skeleton and carry it away if you break it apart. Anyway, I digress. Everyone be blessed.

@EyeSmiteThee I been feeding a bunch of jackdaws , magpies and hooded crows, they like soaked dog food with sunflower seed, oatmeal and whatever other stuf like a few strawberries, a banana, apples, but if I look at them or face them they scatter. The only exception is if I walk to the store in the evening, if I walk without giving them anything, by time I made it a couple blocks they have began to completely melt down, a whole group meltdown , they fly as slow as possible beside me trying to get my attention, the land on everything and fly from sign to sign to bush, they land on my path and refuse to move until I am almost there like they do with cars when playing their goofy little corvid games. They will fly to the store I get the cookies from and wait on the roof, as I walk up the sidewalk little bird beaks and eyeballs looking over the edge. When I come back out of the store a few of the older ones will be waiting and will fly to me and greet me with the tattle tail “caWwwww”. “HE IS OVER HERE , RIGHT HERE i got him here and he gots coooookies!” This is a nightly routine , I hardly ever miss a date with em. 🖤

some years ago during a hot drought a robin fledgling fell out of a nest in my yard. i got out the hose to turned it to a trickle and left it there in the yard. i came out later and found the young robin sitting on a damp area near the hose nozzle. so then the months go by and one morning in the early spring i opened the back door where i see a robin at the bottom of the porch steps. and then it suddenly flew off.

Just like us if food is plentiful we’re not always in the mood for turkey or peanut butter. They will cache some of that for hungrier times. I like how they call to tell the others there’s food here guys. They are naturally pretty wary of strangers. I’m guessing they prefer peanut butter. Only problem how to get it off their beaks. Once I saw obviously very hungry crows begging from cars on the ferry dock. All I had was yogurt so I blobbed it on the railing for them. They liked it but it was tricky for them to scrape it off their beaks afterwards. 🦜😎
