Released in arcades in 1996 by Midway & Nintendo, Cruis'n World is a sequel to Cruis'n USA, running on the prototype Nintendo Ultra 64 hardware that was later downscaled to become the Nintendo 64. Instead of just the USA, this game allowed players to drive around the world. As the game's main menu title theme proclaimed, "You Got The Beat! You Got The Power! To Cruise The World!"
The gameplay was the same as USA except the 14 tracks were set around the world and the main story mode is now called Cruise The World, starting in Hawaii and working your way west around the globe to a finish in Florida. Like the original, if you play and complete the story mode, you get to see the ending. Once again winning a race awards a free continue.
A couple of gameplay changes are the ability to double-step on the gas pedal twice quickly to do a wheelie, which may allow players to do jumbo flips in the air from certain jumps and receive a bonus-each successful jumbo flip will take 1 second off your final time for that stage/race. Some tracks also have multiple paths and shortcuts. The ridiculous crash physics of USA were toned down but remain ridiculous, and there is a little more voiceover commentary during races, sometimes with hilariously off timing like when she shouts "We're gonna crash!" AFTER you crash! Another change was that the deluxe sit-down model cabinets now support multiplayer for up to 4 players linked together instead of 2. There also was a new soundtrack.
The game was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and remained popular in arcades until the next sequel, Cruis'n Exotica, was released in 2000.
(Note: There were at least 7 versions/revisions of the game in arcades. This video features Version 2.5, believed to be the final version, which based on the game's boot sequence may have been released in November 1998)
