Cruise News: Cruise Line Issues Warning About False Information ----> kzitem.info/news/bejne/jndnsYaikWKbgXY

Wife and I averaged a couple of cruises a year. It will be our 40th anniversary in September. I lost track after our 8th cruise. We even met on a cruise. I was spoiled with the 519 passenger Sun Viking nearly 50 years ago. The larger ships seem to lose something with their size. I do see more private cruise islands in the future. And if I knew everything about cruising, I would have a KZitem channel of my own. So I come here for that information.

I like big cruise ships but these Mega ships are too much for me. When I saw Icon of the seas parked right next to us in St. Maarten there were kids everywhere. It looked like a daycare center. I agree about the Beyond, great size ship and my favorite.

@Emergency_system_reboot The service suffers on mega ships. There crew to passenger ratio goes from 2 to 1 to 3.5 to 1... In addition, the space for venues can't hold enough people. If you are not a suite guest, or Diamond + ect, good luck getting into a venue on a Megas ship. I dislike the mega ships.

Not interested in mega ships at all. Have been on Fairstar back in the 80s which was 21,000 tonnes, then recently The Coral Princess 91, 627 tonnes . For me ships that are closer to 200,000 tonnes carrying 5000 or so passengers sounds like a nightmare! I love your videos here in Australia Jayson and I’m wondering have you covered at all ,the current cruise ship situation in Australia ie losing our only line after 90 years of cruising.

On both Royal Caribbean's and Celebrity's web sites, while you're booking, there is a box, not fine print, that asks if you'd like a refundable deposit. It comes up and stares you in the face. It's just like the boxes that asks if you want pre paid gratuities, and if you want insurance. There's no fine print or deception. The only deception is from the people that say they didn't know this was non-refundable.

Personally I would not cruise on a mega ship. I know Key West is very selective about the types of ships they will allow. No mega ships and only one at a time and not every day. They even went so far as to ban cruise ships at one point and for good reason, but the Gov. over ruled them. Seems cruise ship passengers don't spend a great deal of money in port. DUH! Probably due to the fact that they have all they could ever want to eat and drink on the ship already paid for.

I think that the cruise lines will run out of ports to call on if they continue with the mega ships. Many of the more popular places to visit will push back, but also the logistics of the ports of departure. Bridges exist, and the ships have to be able to pass under the bridges, also, the depth of the channel they are navigating may not be able to be changed for environmental reasons (you don't want to dredge and destroy an oyster bed), or an existing tunnel may prevent it. MSC knows this in advance as they already have supersized cargo ships that cannot deliver to America because it lacks the deep ports that those ships need.. this video was really good at explaining it: kzitem.info/news/bejne/jmOik3qNjqqpnKwsi=cPUvnDNbVXYV7Do7

Rookie mistake and trusted my TA when she said RC-Wonder. I have not sailed yet and am regretting my decision. We have committed to sail but will likely choose a smaller vessel if we book again. The reality is though, smaller vessel, less passengers, higher prices. It's a catch-22.

Great updates. I even think the Quantum class RC ships are too big. But, I think cruise lines (RC in particular) are still going to continue building these MEGA Oasis-class ships b/c they realized that is the best way to maximize $$$$$$. They will just avoid the ports that limit them, and continue to go to the same old BORING ports of Nassau, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, etc. Also, they are going to continue building their own private destinations to further maximize these profits. It's sad really, because I LOVE the Vision-class ships and the out of the way ports like Bonaire, Curacao, and Dominica.... but they are RARELY on any of the itineraries.

I think cruise lines will start building smaller ships again, BUT I also believe that there is this unspoken competition to outdo the Icon of the Seas. Other cruise lines like Carnival, MSC, Norwegian hate the fact that Royal Caribbean has the Mega Celeb of the cruise industry. I think Royal Caribbean may even try to outdo themselves.

Jayson, this past fall, my wife and I sailed on both H-A's Statendam and Celeb's Equinox. In our opinion, they were both just the right size. However, we would love to see a fleet of way smaller (say 800 to 2000) passenger ships that did extended cruises to exotic destinations. Season Cruisers? A person who's sailed on multiple lines to places other than just the Caribbean, and understands that not everyone at the dinner table cares to hear about it.

I would expand the Quantum Class fleet with that size. I would also give the Freedom class ships a good update too. Those size ships are in the sweet spot of size/capacity to me as well.

I have done eight cruises on seven different. There are still things that I am learning. I will admit that after eight cruises, I have a pretty good idea of which lines I really like and those which I will pass on. I have five future cruises booked on four different lines between September and April. One of these days, I will spend the money and cruise on Windstar cruises.. That is way out of my league as we aim at finding cruises that are under $100 pp per day (fare+taxes and port fees+Gratuities-OBC). I do not like the megaships that much as they are so grossly overpriced. The lines that have the megaships have generally mediocre food and service.

Personally, it is on the passenger if they don’t understand that there are itinerary changes…it’s been very common recently. Hoping that the megaship trend is over - cruising to us has always been about the destination and on the bigger ships it is so crowded with more than we could ever do. Beyond was perfect!!

Since hubby and I are about to embark on our first ocean-going brand name cruise, the thought of a mega ship is overwhelming. Neither of us has even experienced as much in one place as even MS Volendam will offer us in about 2 weeks. I keep on looking at our itinerary to make sure our excursion in Bar Harbor is still a go, with everything that's been going on with tourist limits.

Personally, I believe there are markets for big and small cruise ships. I don’t see a reason to stop building the mega ships when there are still hundreds of ports they can still go to. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like a cruise to nowhere (I know they would have to make at least one stop in a foreign country) on the mega cruise ships. Maybe stopping at friendly ports or a private island. The ship is what draws me to cruising. I like stopping in ports, but that’s not my main attraction to cruising.

I dont like the Mega ships. Ships over 3500 passengers are too much for us. I dont need an amusement park at sea. I dont think the ports banning huge ships will stop them from making more. They are being booked to capacity every cruise. It makes me so sad that NCLs Jewel Class are getting old and NCL announced Mega Ships on the way. I really believed they would not follow suit. I do however think they may be sorry in a few years. More people are trying cruises no than ever. Many of these first timers wont be back for round 2. Certainly not rounds 3, 7, 14, etc. As long as the craze lasts, the Mega Ships will keep coming. We are considering crusing less, on a different line even though we wont get the cabin comps. We just did the ABCs in Feb and it was so awesome. We pick our cruises by itineraries AND ships. We dont take cruises that are less than 7 days. We try to stick with 11 or 12 days. We steer clear 9f the Megas Ships. Most of them cant get into the ports we like anyway. If RCL does build new smaller ships, we will definitely book. NCL does not status match on Oceania or Regent so why bother spending a ton more? Celebrity is worth the extra we will have to pay, the other 2 are just too much. So, maybe just 1 cruise a year now on Celebrity or maybe Virgin!

Disney Fantasy with 4K passengers was our largest ship so far. Royal Princess with 3500 will be in less than 2 weeks. We avoid the ships with the gimmicks like roller coasters, speedways, etc.. We've done the Six-Flags season and annual passes. We cruise for ship experience. All the extra pay dining is getting to be too much. Disney Fantasy had 2, our upcoming Royal Princess has 4. Mega ships seem to reduce the value of what is included in the fare with even more extra pay items. For us its the hassle. We have a package for our Princess cruise where everything is included for the most part which is what we prefer.

My guess is that there will be two types of ships. Megaships for seacations with no or very few ports. For people who enjoy sea days. (Increases income from the increase of money customers spend on board and reduces port fees. Marketed to a younger audience and families. And medium ships of 3000 where focus is on portdays. Cruise companies more pushing the sales of their own excursions by giving preferred timeslots to theses excursions. Theses ships will have more designated spaces for "ship in ship. " Which is always hard to operate without annoying the cheaper category. Well that was my prediction.

Too many Megga ships (4,000+ as opposed to the official definition of 5,000+) have already been built to stop now. It may be that Megga ships will become the destinations themselves, attracting guests who don't care where they cruise to providing they get the theme park, party atmosphere. That could leave the destination based guests with the smaller ships. It could actually work out OK (probably not!!).

I'm from Alaska, and the smaller cities cannot simultaneously handle all those people in port. I took a cruise to Alaska last year and spoke with a young lady working in a gift store and she told me there were 7 ships in port that day, which meant roughly 15,000-20,000 people at one time in a small city. It's too bad the ships cannot dock in Anchorage where that many tourists can be handled. I'm all for the smaller ships. The cruise lines will have to adjust.

Not a fan of the Mega ships. Too many people on board. The MDR doesn't get set up on time so there are delays and they try to rush you through your meal. I don't know if I'm on seasoned cruiser I've only been on 31 cruisers. More cities don't want Mega ships because they don't want all the people coming at once. Like the size of the Carnival Triumph. It was the largest ship in the world when I sailed on it. 1,200 passengers. Now they are building ships that can hold 3,000 or more passengers. Just subscribed. This is the first of your videos I've seen.

Jason, VERY informative video, while at sea! All the cruise port push back, should be a MAJOR warning to all the cruise lines, that if you have no ports to accept you, then you better build smaller. It's not like the Quantum class ships are mediocre by any means. Royal Caribbean needs to get on those " Discovery class" ships they touted last year, to replace the aging Radiance class.
