I've just come back from a weekend boating holiday in the Norfolk Broads in the UK. We might not be able to cruise right now, but this is a cruise with a difference - watch the video to see what I mean! And it's really no less exciting than a 'proper' cruise, just different. You get to captain your own ship (oh, ok, boat!) and to be in charge. And you get to decide your own itinerary. The Norfolk Broads are in the east of the UK (in East Anglia) and not far from the city of Norwich. It's a 200-mile, seven river network of tranquil, navigable waterways which crisscross marshes and farmland. The scenery is stunning - there are lots of windmills at every twist and turn. And the wildlife is exceptional. Otters have made a welcome comeback here and there are SO many different species of birds. The beauty about being in charge of your own boat is that you can stop whenever and wherever you want. This video shows how we sailed along, then stopped at the odd windmill and pub as well as a 3rd century Roman shore fort called Burgh Castle. We went hiking along the Angles Way long distance footpath - so you can get some exercise too - and we drank wine up on top deck and ate some great food, from takeaway fish & chips to BBQ ribs at a waterside pub. All in all the perfect boating/cruising holiday and I can't recommend the Norfolk Broads in the UK enough as a destination. Our boat was also exceptional - it was a big boat that could sleep 8 (although we were only four people) and it was sleek, clean, comfy, spacious, lovely to drive - in another video you can watch an in-depth inside tour of that boat, which is called an Explorer 3 motor cruiser.
