We li ed on cumberland island across from kings bay navy base. That’s a demagnetization area the subs go through. After 911 we were coming back from town to go home and coast guard came up to our boat as we got closer to that area- we had to make a turn to go to our dock on cumberland across from it. Scary time- we were just doing our normal. It’s cool when you have a huge sun come right up beside you.

I think that's a degiuser for magnetism, we never went into one of those when I was in the Navy as I was on an older class submarine, USS Tecumseh SSBN 628, out of Charleston SC.

The long metal "arbor" you saw outside the submarine base is used to demagnetize the subs returning from their missions. You can read more information by Googling US Submarine Degaussing.

Great video! Good cross section of the trip. I’m trying to learn more about, lodging along the way…off boat. And, how do you know where it is legal to just anchor down for the night…learning for our future trip. Prob SC to Key Biscayne area. Enjoyyyyyyy Every Day! Dan

Thank you Dan! Very few places you can't anchor, as long as you're outside of the channel. Get yourself a copy of the Waterway Guide as is is very helpful for this trip.

Last question,,,do y’all use A/C much. Necessity?
@ourfloatinghome8940
2 жыл бұрын
@@runltdan We do, but only when really needed! We prefer to not run it only because the boat feels 'closed up' and it can be a little noisy. Once it gets above 80-85 degrees, we'll kick it on and be glad for it!

Im surprised they let you get that close to a sub! It was great to meet you guys at the Miami Boat Show. I know Ive asked this in a different way but when you stay at those free docks, do you have power? If not, do you just run off the house battery? Im wondering because of my planned trip down south this summer and fall.Keep the videos coming.

great to meet you Julio. There was one point where the channel veered towards the sub, and with the dredger on my port, I think that caused the patrol boat to approach!
