The "Holder of this Holding" question. Does it apply to the person who owns the county, or to everyone who has lordship over it? For example, does the King of England get the bonus from the Canterbury Cathedral if it's held by the Earl of Kent (or the Duke of Kent)? Also, do you still get the bonus if you leased it to a holy order you are the patron of? You missed (in Holy Sites) one of the most famous of them all (especially if you play the Civ series) The Hagia Sophia. Ok, you got to it in the Historical section, but you didn't mention that (atleast for Christians) the religion needs to consider Byzantion a holy site. Chatholics, for example, receive NO benefit from it. Is the Hostile Raid Time for the Aurelian Walls even remotely useful whatsoever? Considering you have to be a tribal government to raid, and the closest ones I know of are in Russia, I don't see how that bonus could be even remotely helpful. Also on Rome, considering the Colosseum was completed in 80 AD (almost 800 years before the games earliest start date), given that it's always built should be a given. That also applies to the Pyramids of Giza. The Hostile Raid Time defense of the Doge's Palace is possibly, maybe, perhaps, theoretically slightly more useful than Rome's, but only because it's a little closer to rulers that can raid. In practical usefulness, that hostile raid time is equally useless. Has ANYONE had raiders hit either Rome or Venice? The Barony of Constantinople is one of the most important strategically places - in CK3. You didn't have to mention "In CK3, actually." It was (and maybe still is) one of the most strategically important places even today. It might have diminished slightly because of the end of the Cold War, but what makes Constantinople (and the Dardanelles in general) is that they keep the Russian Black See fleet trapped there (and the fact that ALL of Russia's warm water ports are in the Black Sea influenced history half a world away - The Russo-Japanese War was fought over the fact that the Russians were building up Port Arthur and that threatened the Japanese). Any mod that adds more buildings is (near) useless in my opinion. Why? Almost the exact same reason why any mod (or for that matter, BG:EE and BG2:EE ) that adds more characters is near useless. In the Infinity Engine (BG, PST, and IWD and sequels, if any) you have a hard coded max of 6 character slots. In PST it's not too bad, considering there are only 7 other character (and the last 2 are either redundant and/or not as entertaining -or both- and the other 5). Not sure about IWD, but there are 25 additional character in Baldur's Gate and 16 character in BG2. The Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition series adds about 5 more per game. Any additional characters are redundant. In CK3, you have a holding limit based on your Stewardship, Innovations, perks, dynasty perks, and how powerful you are (earl, duke, king or Emperor) but it caps at about 35 or so. You used to have the NK strategy, but Paradox got rid of that VERY quickly. With just the buildings in the base CK3, you can easily hit that cap with holy sites, universities, and about a quarter of the (non-religious) unique sites. Sure, I could play a different character, but that would just allow me to choose different sites (just like I could choose different characters in BG2). What's the point of adding to a game when one character can't experience what's there in the base game, let alone mods that increase that number?
@RealmBuilderGuy
3 жыл бұрын
In terms of the “holding effects”, it’s not very well explained by Paradox. But the way I (and most) read it is that the direct holding effects apply to whoever directly controls said holding.

Thanks for the videos. I'm noting that in some cases in this video you are mentioning a "realm wide" bonus, when there isn't one. The Aurelean Walls, for example, give a bonus to levy size and taxes to all building in the duchy, but you call it a realm wide bonus. 30:47 I saw this mistake in other places as well. EDIT - another example is at 39:35. The description clearly indicates a "duchy wide" bonus, but you call it a "realm wide" bonus.
@RealmBuilderGuy
3 жыл бұрын
Realm can be duchy wide, but that also verbiage used by Paradox themselves
@marceror
3 жыл бұрын
@@RealmBuilderGuy I'm not sure where Paradox ever confused "Duchy-wide" with "Realm-wide", as you mention, but if they did they were making a mistake. A duchy is simply that, a collection of one or more assigned counties and all of the holdings/baronies contained within those counties. A realm is the sum total of all baronies, counties, duchies, kingdoms and/or empires that you control, whether directly or through vassals. It can be smaller than a duchy, or much larger, but referring to a duchy and a realm interchangeably just doesn't seem logical or accurate. To your point, I suppose realm-wide *could* be equivalent to duchy wide-- IF, and ONLY if, you hold ONLY that single duchy, but that's more of a technicality than a useful description. At any rate, I played a long campaign as the Byzantine Empire and never saw any evidence of the Theodosian Walls providing benefits outside the Duchy of Thrace (bonuses were listed within the duchy, but no where else). In my Slavic Empire campaign I held the Duchy of Latium, and similarly never saw any evidence of Aurelian Walls providing benefits outside the duchy. The bonuses were clearly indicated for holdings within the duchy, but only for those holdings. That said, this is your channel and you're welcome to characterize these details however you see fit.

Hello, I watched the whole video and still need ur help or at least some of ur Ck3 wisdom: so apparently a friend of mine and myself started in 1066 in the Byzantine Empire on the islands Rhodos and Lesbos to try something new after playing in Europe for a while. After a while I managed to conquer Athens, for the flex and to build the special building there, but it’s just said „! You do not have any available Buildings for this slot.“ :( without knowing what to do I started the research and already found out that i can build (I think it’s a church) when I have the Hellenic Religion BUT as a normal player in 1066, Byzantine empire I’m Greek Orthodox and it costs me 124k to change/switch my religion. I even researched on ways how to do that, and someone calculated a way in a reddit post but even with what he wrote it seems literally impossible to archive. So my final question is (I hope u can help me) can I change the special building to be build there in the slot OR can I just make my own Christ-Hellenic Religion (like just creating a new one or creating any religion) and make Athens to a holy place that I can build something there? Like is it possible to make his own religion and build special buildings at the holy places I choose when they already have a slot for special buildings? If not then Athens is absolutely useless cuz I can’t build anything on the special slot. I hope u can help me :)

Rome has to be the best county/barony (still hate that some city republics are castles, like Genoa and Venice. Oddly not Pisa though. The CK2 barony of Westminster and city of London system was much better, so I hope they will undoubtedly fix it in future.) with both the Aurelian walls AND the amphitheatre. Can't get much better than that. If you form Italy and get strong enough to reclaim Latium and Rome from the papacy and their 20k mercenary stack, they will likely have upgraded all the holdings to level 3 and all of their building slots. My tax income doubled after taking rome from +21 to +45, WITH retinues at full strength, it's insane. After building some of my own bouldings, upgrading counties of myself and vassals, and optimised the land I had taken, I got it to fluctuate around +55 to +60. Most of my money and levies comes from the duchy of Latium alone, and the threshold for vassals to be considered "powerful" is very high. Only the Duke of Lombardy who has something like 6 counties to himself and the Duke of Tuscany with about 5 are powerful enough to demand council positions, but they wouldn't be a threat even if they rebelled. It also takes too long to build the white tower of London as in to get the perquisites to build it, as your culture will already be, or will already be turning to English if you invade as Normans. I think the Normans or William the conqueror specifically should get an event or decision when owning London to construct the tower, even without the required fascination.

A lot of these you stated are realmwide but aren't actually, some are only for the duchy it's located in like Constantinople and the Theodosian walls, or Stonehenge which is only for whoever holds the holding. Canterbury is also a church settlement so it means most benefits are only available to your realm priest.

@@RealmBuilderGuy Like all of the upgradable Historical Buildings, all of the Mines, the Glass Monument, the Sicilian Parliament, the standard University and the Hall of Heroes. I would even say that the Tradeports are special, because they can only be build in Holdings in which the Barony is next to universally traversable water. The same with the Military Camp, since its the only building that can be build literally anywhere by anyone as long as they do not have the Tribal Government Type. And not to forget Duchy Buildings, which can only be build in the Duchy's Capital County, inside the Duchy's Capital County Capital Barony's Holding, and they can only be utilized if you are the direct owner of the Duchy Capital Holding and the Duchy Title, _and_ you can only benefit from a maximum of two Duchy Buildings (just like you can only have two Duchy Titles if King or Emperor, without any penalties). Holding Buildings are special because you can't directly benefit from them yourself (unless you have the Lay Clergy Doctrine).
