Hey Brian, thanks for everything you do. Really appreciate all your content. I’m a 32 year old male looking to enlist early next year. Been following you and your advice to get me ready. Is it true that their is a backup for PJ right now? Thanks

Happy to help and thanks for the support! What do you mean by "backup"? As in it will take longer for you to get a slot or you can choose another job as a backup?

@@HowToBeAPJ yeah I heard that apparently there is a delay to enter the PJ pipeline. Tbh I was dead set on PJ, but after a deeper dive into the other careers I can’t decide which to choose now haha.

@@HowToBeAPJ Also, any advice for a 32 year old dude? I’ve been training my ass off. I’ll be ready by the time I get to swcc and a&s

Best thing you can focus on aside from the physical training you are already working on is to get out in front of some groups of people and try to get some experience with leadership! This and reading some of the books on my reading list are really important to older guys as they will be expected to have more leadership talent than those who are younger. Also lots of stretching and foam rolling, recovery becomes more of a big deal as you get older!

Variability in training for starters is key, running hills, sprints, weighted rucks, long distance runs, fartlek's will all help as well as paying attention to your diet and hydration

I'm not sure about patlrarescue, but I know there is an 18x program. Which allows you to get an entry-level special forc3s contract. The only catch is, if you get dropped, they can give you any mos you want. So you can end up a plumber on a ship if you fail the 18x contract. Big risk big reward

Appreciate the content, Brian! Do you have any prep tips for O’s who aim to crosstrain into CRO. It seems as crosstrainees are at a disadvantage since there is no prep or SWCC to go through and it’ll be straight to phase II and selection. I’m trying to find like minded guys to train water con but not sure if any other resources I may have missed. Was planning on reaching out to G3’s developer nearby to see if possible to join in on development sessions but not sure if AD can join.

That is a great place to start getting a group of like minded individuals is highly recommended to help you figure out where you stand so you are not training in a bubble. I would recommend also checking out my GET SELECTED program at beapj.com it has produced many top selectees and gives you a good idea of what to expect at selection. Aside from that I would recommend lots of books on leadership you can check out the reading list on the website. Lastly I would make every attempt to get up in front of people and speak/lead this will give you a huge advantage if you can step up in front of the cadre and speak with confidence during your boards.

How should the people that don’t swim so proficiently be preparing themselves?
@HowToBeAPJ
9 ай бұрын
If you have the ability then a swim coach is a great option. Other options are to start with the "total immersion" book which has helped lots of candidates. Learn about the fundamentals and then put them into practice by going to the pool, while you are there find an older person who looks like they know what they are doing and explain what you are training for. Most people love helping out a younger person, then have them watch you for a bit and give some critiques. At the very least you can film yourself swimming and compare that footage to what you can find on KZitem and take notes on what you need to change. It is a gradual effort but you will get there if you are persistent.
