My ideal solution for this would be an elastic cummerbund that has a QD system with it, however I haven't found one online that has both. It's either one or the other. The only solution that I have though of for this would be to build my own.

If you use the front placard buckles from the Haley Hitchhike on the cummerbund you can connect the thing one (or other chest rig) into one side and the flat pack clips into the other side, and then the extra buckles can be used to stow the chest rig clips facing forward when not in use. That way you're not eating through MOLLE rows like with the side straps or an AXL retention kit. It does mean you're buying potentially 3 hitchhike sets, but it's definitely better than having to buy all those extra buckles that you have to pay for and you get a more organized version of the same functionality

The presentation makes it hard to get through the video to be honest, but I appreciate you talking about the eagle ergo. Cool stuff being used in experimental ways but please man, if you were a friend of mine, I would ask you to change so much but you do what works for you.

My Comments: Firstly, great video. Clearly lots of time, money and effort went into making some great content. -Sustainment is a US Army War Fighting Function (WFF) and is the linchpin that holds the US military together. The old adage that, “amateurs think tactics and professionals think logistics” is very much true. IMHO, the more self sustaining we as a community of Citizens can make ourselves the better off we will all be. So the “Go Long” idea of kit is very interesting to me. -IMHO I am not a big fan on the Hailey Hitchhiker or rear plate bags in general (my mileage). No one would ever go on a weekend camping trip with a “rear plate bag” so why should we consider it a “Go Long” set up? That is not to say we need a rucksack, but a any back pack the size of a medium-large book bag would be cheaper, more versatile and more value added. Plus, how else and I going to carry my wet weather / cold weather gear, snacks and teddy bear? -I agree that having a general purpose set up for integrating into various Citizens with a wide range of knowledge, skills, training and experience is a wise choice. A single well trained and well prepared individual can rally an entire neighborhood/community… ideally long before any emergency occurs. -I would like to kindly recommend some repair and maintenance items in your set up (not that mine is perfect BTW). A spare bolt with gas rings, firing pin, cam pin etc in pistol grip would be great. Maybe a small cleaning kit and bottle of CLP or Loc-Tite (243/Blue) would go a long way to fixing your neighbors crappy home build / safe queen that is shot only once a year. You just know some well meaning neighbor will lose a firing pin retaining pin or have his optic unscrew off of his rifle and you will have to fix it for them, why…because you are the only one who knows how. -Finally I will end with this; No man is an island. No “Go Long” kit provides eternal sustainment. It will be active and engaged communities that will be needed and they should be leveraged long before we ever need to put our kit on. Do we have stores of food, water, medicine, repair parts and tools etc? Can our neighborhood survive cut off from the world for a week or two? Do we know our neighbors? Are we on our HOA boards? Are we a member of the PTA? Do we go to City Counsel meetings? Do we personally know the Sheriff or Police Chief? There are a thousand things that could and should be done and exhausted before any kit is ever necessary. God Bless
@ThinLineDefenseCo
2 жыл бұрын
Fantastic input and I absolutely agree. The rear bags are beyond confusing and in reality, I like being able to remove it. I definitely concur on adding those items to a go long setup! I usually keep them in a ruck that I throw on with me. Suppose I need to show that lol kits like sustainment are super valuable there. This being a go fast is more move and execute and return to your base so it's less a needed item. Great input as always and I'll expand and use your suggestions. Dont be surprised if I steal all of your post in the video hahah -Walsh
@robertdole5391
2 жыл бұрын
You can’t steal what is given freely. :) I would be interested also in your take on a “Go Heavy” set up. Something akin to an urban SWAT kit with emphasis on armor and protection (full carrier, side plates, shoulder, neck and groin protector etc. ) I see this as something for purely defense of the home/homestead. Where I don’t need to move all that much but want maximum protection and firepower. The ultimate in Couch Potato LARPing so it obviously must be in Multicam Basement as you may well be fighting from your actual basement.
@ThinLineDefenseCo
2 жыл бұрын
@@robertdole5391 OooO interesting. I suppose I lump the go long and go heavy together but that would be incorrect. I'd need to sit and think on that one but I think you'd be on the right track. @@ThinLineDefenseCo Allow me to elaborate on the “Go Heavy” set up. Feel free to use all the terrible jokes as well ;) -I personally think the Instagram “Run and Gun” theme is very Afghanistan / Call of Duty centric and used to sell products. I see the light and fast model “Go Fast” being something appropriate for my wife. She is tiny, can’t carry all that much weight and the armor is only there as a last-of-the-last of resorts. So I have set up her armor in a “Go Fast / Break Contact” set up if you will. Provide some protection an extra mag or two and medical kit and coms. Light, fast, simple that allows her to grab the kiddos and RUN AWAY! -To contrast a “Go Fast /Break Contact” set up is a “Go Heavy” setup. The intent here is to leverage armor and firepower(AR10) to “punch above your weight class”, “fight outnumbered and win”, “one man wrecking crew” whatever maxim floats your boat. Given that handguns are the most common form of firearm in US and the preferred weapon for criminals it makes sense to use to maximum coverage possible (lots of soft armor shoulder, neck and groin protectors) to compliment the Level IV Rifle Plates and Side Plates in a full sized carrier. Bonus points for SWAT shields and Mandalorian patches. -“Offensive” operations should likely be avoided at all costs as that is a political and media nightmare and likely a fed boi / CI trap. So my kit should reflect my “mission” which is purely DEFENSIVE. -Mission: keeping my heavy @$$ armor within arms reach while sitting on my butt in my home, sitting in a lawn chair (lawn couch?) on a static community road block / barbecue or ridding in the back of a buddy’s pick-up to Chic-fil-a or 7-11 and sleeping in my own bed at night. -Urban SWAT set up fits this bill. They put it on only when they need to, they basically just stand around in it while the negotiator does his thing and if they have to go in, they are draped in ALL the armor they can find, use shields when possible, use all the cover and concealment (smoke) they can get and as soon as the mission is done, they take all their stuff off and go home and collect that overtime check. -Final note: The US Army is looking at a world where urban / suburban fighting is not just possible but THE primary terrain in which we will fight (ref. Modern War Institute and Urban Warfare Project podcasts both done out of West Point USMA) Urban fights give a strong advantage to the defender playing to that nature advantage seems to be a wise tactical and political strategy.

@@robertdole5391 Absolutely concur doc and the gear that is being sold and the short barreled stupid rifles with 1-10 optics on them further make me agree with how the current angle towards gear is bad. I think your thought process is far more in line with reality. The "go fast" would really only be used if we had to like bust in somewhere and be gone just as fast. Raiding supplies... Busting supply lines.... But that would be silly to make a whole mission set around. Your setup mantra is FAR more likely and I'll do a go heavy setup and steal all of this as even I wasn't thinking on how this would be far more likely. We should chat more! Toss me an email to thinlinedefenseco@gmail.com and I'll get you my info so we can chat -Walsh
