I do keep a baseball bat by the door though. I choose my camp spots wisely and boon-dock exclusively. An LTVA is the way to go in the winter. October thru March. BTW...I avoid the big tent and shows like the plague., as many other "locals". When those are gone...life is good again. @@n3lee The 48v battery bank has been fantastic, no issues there at all. The 48v heat pump that I purchased was overpriced and the heating function on it was flakey at best. It would error out frequently for no apparent reason and it would almost always error out if the wind was blowing directly into the outside unit's fan. The company I bought it from (HotSpot Energy) was not helpful in getting the situation resolved. I think it was a beta product and I was a guinea pig. The only downside to a 48v system in an RV is getting equipment that'll work with it. Your choices are more limited. Should you choose to go with 24v, there's a lot more options.

I have seen a few of these videos and they all seem to have a common element, their battery bays are a C fire waiting to happen. To humor you guys I will list a couple that I see off first glace. 1.) Mechanical abrasive shorting potential between cells when the insulation of the main leads is a potential risk. In general you want a circuit interruption device to be as close to the battery as possible. 2.) Exposed cells/bus tie points. Any conductive material across those points can dead short that portion of the battery until it fuses open, looses connection, or destroys affected cells. Potential for class C fires, then class A, and in worse case Class D due to the lithium battery chemistry. On a good note, those cells look to be of a more stable chemistry. 3.) That circuit breaker is convenient; however, not likely rated for the DC current interruption needed with that battery in a fault. 4.) Water by electronics. Self explanatory; not necessarily a hazard, but precautions should be observed. 5.) Dual use storage and rigging for sea. This is more of a general concept, the electrical system needs to be protected if the space is going to be used for storage duty. Contents may shift during flight. 6.) This may be a bit inevitable, but there isn't easy access to the battery bay when loaded. This goes back to circuit interruption. I would install a remote battery disconnect contactor that isolates the battery at a touch of a button. 7.) Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any figure extinguishers in sight in that battery well. Just a few top level observations. Nice build.
@philhealey449

Yes some valid points. This looks like a Blue Sea Systems circuit breaker which should be ok for 48V and 3000 Amps breaking capacity. I think if say it's a 5kW inverter then I'd add a 150A HRC fuse for peace of mind.

Man ... you nailed it. That setup is sweeeeet. I've looked at hundreds of "tiny homes" and "van life" and alternative living (like earthships). I really mean that. Over the last 5 years I've really been looking into this stuff allot. This is possibly the first portable home I've seen that my wife might actually be willing to live in. The split level design is super smart. I love "the crypt", and the shower and the living room. It looks like once your sitting it would feel very much like a standard living room experience. What I might do to improve the shower experience... for what you have there is size the curtains so there isn't a bunch of gathering in the curtain it self. Then attach a rod (kinda like the one for adjusting vineeshen blinds) to each end of the curtain where you would normally hold it to pull it around (ya know ... if you could reach). Add some magnets (not to many, prolly only 4) to the bottom, and of course a way for them to attach. What this would do is give you more room in the shower and keep the curtain from touching you. Basically the same process as you have now to set it up... just jump in grab the rods and use that to pull the curtain around, then quickly use your feet to slide the magnets into position. Now because you have less shower curtain material, and because there is not much waving of the material, the effective space is larger. It also might store better (again less material). A common thing I see in many shower configurations using a curtain is very few people think of using the curtain as a wall. Like in your case, if that curtain were opaque it would probably feel claustrophobic. But in wall configuration even opaque it wouldn't be nearly as bad. It takes a bit of imagination to be able to picture each situation so I don't know it what i'm saying makes any sense but hopefully its something to consider. Anyway just an idea. .... great job on this home on wheels... super cool. Also this thing looks way bigger on the inside then the outside in this video. At the end when you're outside for the wrap up, I found my self thinking wow i just felt like i got a house tour... wait what... its all in that little white box. I realize its a large trailer but you really did a lot with it. Well Done Sir. Now jump in your tardis and off to the next adventure. ;-)

Everything is great except for the bed. It’s alright now but if you get a back, knee, neck, arm injury or even the runs 😳, well, good luck with that. But like I said everything else is great. Bathroom & shower is just genius.

If it's a temporary injury/issue, he could just sleep in the couch area. But yes, I do see your point.

Outstanding job. Reminds me of our sailboat we lived in for years. Suggestions: Arch the entrance to the crypt. You won't scrap your back. Put IR cameras around the unit so you can see what's going on while in the crypt (tablet) or salon since few windows. Definitely need to escape the crypt in case of fire. An O2 bottle might not be a bad idea. Long window above couch. Love the shower. We had a combo W/D in our 5th wheel. Very well done. Congrats!

I'm wondering about that sleeping space. Should we do a gps on that rig and compare it to locations where hookers have gone missing?

Wow! Like the crypt. Love the theater room. Subfloor design. Cause who wants to be underneath in the weather. Shower idea is great. Great use of space. How high from floor to ceiling? So I had an underground fort as a kid spent many nights in . best sleep ever. No light quiet. Secure. In really impressed.

A lot of great work and planning. I only regret I can only give it one thumbs up. Soon it will be a 5th wheel. Just awesome

So day walkers do exist and apparently they are pretty nice guys lol. In all seriousness there are some great design features in that trailer! I especially like the shower design! Great Job on the build and thanks for sharing it! And to be honest the crypt idea is pretty ingenious for the reasons you explained!

I love this. I'm a few inches taller and can't bend like that as easy, but I imagined a larger entry for the crypt by including a few inches of the loft floor edge as part of the door itself, and put it on a popout style track to easily move it to the side, like how a minivan door opens. Would do wonders for the back I bet.

Hey Mike, I really like your rig. I have been toying with an all aluminum 5th wheel build and your video has given me a lot of inspiration. Cheers

Your rig is fantastic. Well planned out. I hope you can answer a few questions. Where do you normally eat? I assume up in the lounge area. Even though you said you planned the bathroom for you by yourself, I wonder why you did not make a separate shower and toilet unit to vent and isolate the smell. I assume you are not a fan of open light, why did you bother with windows. Resell I assume down the road Love the idea you planed for using the under section for your tanks and extras. No worry about damage or freezing. Why no generator to recharge your batteries if you decide to travel into areas of reduced sun. Do you support yourself on the road. Would enjoy seeing some of the various places you have been with your rig Look forward to seeing some of your answers. Some of your best set ups in my opinion are the elevated solar panels. Very ingenious. Your shower set up set up where you can send Grey water outside or Grey water tank. Entire back garage with water tank and solar set up. Very easy to get at and maintained. Your bed under your lounge is good for you but too much work for me. Your design so my opinion does not matter. If I was 60 years younger I would love have a rig like yours to travel around. One of the best featured self contained units I have ever seen Do you have plans to take it to Alaska and enjoy that beautiful state and check out the winter season?

I've put together a frequently-asked-questions page which answers most of your questions here: bit.ly/2TsDaEP I don't have any plans to go to Alaska in the winter, I grew up in Minnesota and have had plenty of winter wonderland for now.
