I've never seen a parva carpet before. Good god. You sure it ain't micro swords?

I'm no expert, bought tissue cultures from Aquarium Industries through Pet Barn. Planted 18 months ago in Eco Complete. Haven't seen a parva carpet anywhere on the net like it. My issue now is how to maintain it as it's about 4 inches thick and growing. Haven't been able to find any info anywhere on what to do to trim it.

The only way to trim any crypts (if your plant really is a crypt) is to cut from the very bottom of the leaves. To put it in perspective, crypts are of the rhizome family like Java fern/Anubias etc. If you were to cut one of its leaf in half, it will forever damage that leaf. The leaf can still grow but more than likely, the plant itself will choose to use its energy to grow new leaves. Knowing that, that leaf is damaged. The only way to thin out the crypts are to pluck our whole rhizomes or trim the larger growing leaves which in your case is too late since thousands of leaves are at its peak. Unless you devote a few days to thin it out lol. I highly doubt that in 18 months, tissue cultured crypt parva can grow to this extent even in the best of its conditions. You should try to find out really if it is crypt parva or not. Parva is one of the slowest crypts. Pluck one out to see if it has a rhizome.

I just got a pot of cryptocoryne parva, did you ever find out whether this is parva or another species?

how are you releasing the Co2 in this tank so that it rises so subtly? This is really a great looking tank and the parva looks amazing. Good video and thanks for posting.

Wow, that looks great. Your best bet is to just pull some out and spread it to give it some room to fill in again . If you just chop it it will grow back but it will take a long time to come back. I found this video looking for some for sale too. Now I really need to get my hands on some for my crypt tank.

Thanks for the advice, I will try that. I tried trimming a small patch last week, ended up with a lot of yellow stubs after a few days :(. I struggled to find anything that could carpet where I live, this was a fluke really. I'd seen some in a short video that looked a little straggly, mine has come up much thicker and lusher. I've posted a short vid of some pulled plants to my channel, just so that you can see the plants up closer.

Hi there, sorry to say, but this plant isn't Cryptocoryne Parva. I don't even think its a Crypt at all since the next to the smallest species is Crypt. Lucens, which doesn't grow like this. What you have here is more of a dwarf chain sword type carpeting plant. Still very impressive !
