7:20 The Konami and Metal Gear guys are long gone. You're not going to get another one out of Konami the same way you aren't going to get another Front Mission, Star Ocean, or Valkyrie game out of Square Enix. The reason why they've changed so much is because everyone who made it possible aren't there anymore. Even if they put out another game under those names like you saw with Star Ocean, it's nowhere close to the first four games and instead feel more like discount Final Fantasy 16. 25:00 Concord is an uninspiring mess. The reason why it gets ripped on so much is the same problem people make jokes about the "modern audiences" and "checklists". Concord looks like the embodiment of those ideas. Characters look like they just stepped out of the discount section of a Ross. 30:15 Much like the "checklist" problem, you often end up with characters that feel too much the same. It's effectively the Teen Titans Go problem where any unique characteristics they might have had ends up being destroyed by the fact that they made everyone's personality too similar. If you only have one or two, then it's not a problem. When your whole cast does it, it's a serious problem. Dustborn is an example of this. Everyone ends up having those unlikeable characteristics pushed to 11 and the worst part is that they think that they are in the right. Realistically, the cast should've been at each others' throats like a bad horror movie in the first thirty minutes. 33:20 Like I said with the "checklist" problem, when it becomes too similar, you lose your uniqueness. One of the major issues is what they choose to be the character's defining characteristic. This needs to be impactful in some way to the overall story, but it's not. If you decide to start playing up pronouns and sexuality, it needs to matter in some way down the line. Instead, what we have are character templates that are being used with no reason to do so. If you're going to do a lack of confidence storyline, you need to make sure you can properly build off it. Tokyo Mirage Sessions absolutely butchered theirs with the censorship of Tsubasa's story where her personal story was about her lack of confidence, which she overcomes in chapter 3 of the main game. And unfortunately for any other games, the ones that have already come out have set an absolutely terrible example and potentially doomed any good game. They've focused so much on the "checklist" that people are looking for it before the game is even released. Which game is Amanda Waller going to appear in after The Suicide Squad's failure? She's already been in Call of Duty, Forspoken, and Star Wars: Fallen Order among others. 40:00 Triple A games nowadays are just playing catch up, largely by upgrading the graphics on a recently improved idea. I would say that Minecraft completely changed the gaming landscape because it was the game that basically started showing that game publishers and console developers had no idea what fans actually wanted. The emphasis was on pushing graphics and action games for so long and all it took was one person who thought differently to completely wreck them. We've seen this over the years again with games like Terrarria and Stardew Valley. Yet, major publishers are still chasing things like ray tracing and frame generation. This shows the disconnect between gamers and the major game developers. Games like Final Fantasy is where the gap is the most noticeable due to the older players who have effectively boycotted the franchise and Fire Emblem, who feel that the developers have broken their promise from Fates. 47:40 Game pricing has become a serious issue since the increase to 70 bucks this generation. It's had a major impact on sales and I wouldn't be surprised if the budget gamers have fled the consoles entirely. What makes matters worse is that each generation seems to push more content towards their online or live service stuff so they can monetize additional season passes. This pushes the prices up even more. 50:00 Game of the Year is going to be rough. The question is how have the new requirements impacted eligibility requirements now that they've been pushing more diversity stuff. My personal choice is definitely Persona 3 Reload. It's almost everything I wanted to see in the Remake. However, it will never win because it's a turn based JRPG and the industry tends to push what they want to see. Black Myth: Wukong will likely win players' choice to upset whatever else they might have. 58:30 This is something that a lot of fans of new Final Fantasy seem to miss. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a terrible remake. When you set out to remake a game, you're supposed to be updating the game using modern tech. Remake on the other hand, is a reimagining, which isn't an update. Instead, it completely changes everything. Remake had the advantage of people not knowing this. Rebirth does not. And most importantly of all, Japan stopped supporting Final Fantasy. The core audience that once propped up this entire franchise just vanished. 1:01:50 Did everyone forget about Price of Eternity's Blitzbomb and Will's Love Triangle? There's a reason why a lot of people didn't want to see 10-3 actually happen. And if it turns out Yuna is the one Beckoning the new Sin, we in for an even bigger disaster than the blitzbomb incident.
