Hearing Sealey was playing was the biggest relief ever and maybe with hindsight fergie's best ever team selection, what people may not realize is that palace bombed the box full of high difficult crosses and Les took every one, if Leighton would have been on it would have been chaos as usual..

Les Sealey. A superb goalkeeper. One the best decisions Sir Alex ever made in his managerial career was dropping Leighton. I do feel sorry for him, looking back. I was 8 when this happened. Leighton was a decent keeper, but never ever top notch. Sealey went on and won an FA Cup medal. European Cup Winners Cup medal. And got a Premier League medal in 93. Died far too young but he left his mark on Manchester United. Lee Martin too. Underrated.

The FA cup with its knockout format was so much more exciting than the first division was and the premier league is now. Part of me hates how the premier league has reduced the FA cup's importance since 1992.

I think the magic of the FA Cup was partly to do with the fact that it was the only live football match that was screened on the TV annually and a week after the season had ended. So it was the show-piece of the football calendar. Now it's been demoted to just another game with its 16.45pm kick off and played before the last round of Premier League games
