Mitsubishi S3L2 engine non turbo with a cracked cylinder head and head gasket damage. This tractor has a history of overheating and being ran hot. It has mysteriously been losing coolant for years but finally broke in such a way to force a tear down. I was called out due to the water pump leaking from its weep hole and steam coming out from its exhaust pipe and from its radiator cap. Upon inspection I felt air moving through the radiator hoses and after removing the radiator cap observed large amounts of exhaust gases escaping from the radiator. I was hopeful that it was just a simple case of a blown head gasket but soon discovered that the cylinder head was cracked and it would be a relatively simple repair job.
One frustration in engine repair that is much different then in my teenaged years is the loss of the numerous machine shops that were sprinkled throughout my town. This video isn't a repair video, it only shown the teardown and diagnostic process on this Cub Cadet 7265.
This video shows you a pretty good example of what to expect to see when you tear into a severely over heated engine.
