Patrick Mangan, Horticulture Extension Agent for Missoula County, says that while blueberries are desirable, they struggle in the alkaline soils of many western states. There are several other berries that can thrive in colder climate conditions. This recorded presentation will highlight berry and small fruits (haskap, dwarf sour cherry, serviceberry and others) that are well suited for growing in the Intermountain West. Considerations for cold hardiness, soil conditions, pests, and market opportunities are included.
