When Stav and Adam argued against Nick's reasoning with "what if everyone went to excess with food sampling", I realized that they're utilizing Immanuel Kant's Categorical Imperative. They demonstrated the immorality of Nick's behavior by universalizing his maxim, proving that the system would collapse in on itself if everyone acted abusively. So, if everyone wants to benefit from the system then they must act with self-restraint, as those who act egoistically would ultimately be harming themselves by putting stress on that very same system they're gaining from. I think this applies to political contexts as well, given some of the comments below. I acknowledge that for the time being, the system has been shut down, but if we wish it to return we must act ethically (in Kantian terms).

We routinely lapped the store, and the ladies didn't give a shit about giving us 2nd or 3rds on the samples, they seemed to just enjoy having someone to talk to. My grandma tried to tell him to stop and he said the same thing Nick did. "You know why, D******? Because I fucking paid for it." - Calmly, and with a smile on his face.
