the factory seal sits flush, and the new one is set back substantially. Is this to get a new sealing point on the crank? Sane as the 6.7 I assume? thaks!!

Hello Joe, Thanks for your video. I do have a question. I just bought this truck and had to replace the clutch and thought I would replace the rear main seal. When I took off the aluminum plate there was no seal inside . I bought a new seal, installed the seal as you did. When I tried to install it went to install it - it would not fit around the end of the crankcase. The end of the crankcase is 3/4'" larger than the seal. When I took a closer look I saw a seal attached on the engine side of the crankcase end - on the crankcase itself. It will not pull out over the end of the crankcase. I am lost on this. Any ideas? Thanks a lot, Dennis

+Dennis Reid that is a weird one. What year is the truck? Sounds like the seal is just stuck on the end of the crank. Never seen or heard of that but anythings possible.

I think mine has a wear ring on it. The plastic guide won't fit over the rear of the crank and the inner rubber keeps rolling back. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think the depth setting driver ring for the seal is used to also center the crank in the cover plate. Then the bolts for the cover plate are tightened. What is with the G56? My 04 cummins with the NV5600 was wrecked in 05. I ran around all the dealers to find the last 05 Cummins still made with the NV5600 since the Mercedes transmission with its dual mass was an unknown factor. I got the NV5600 since it was tried and true. G56 work out okay for the trucks.

any specific torque specs for 6bolts holding the seal? here in the near future I'll be swapping to G56 on my 99' and plan on replacing rear main at same time.. might as well.

Braden Sanchez I'm sure there is a torque spec but I didn't worry too much about it. Just get them tight in a criss cross pattern and you'll be fine. It's been good as of now no drips or leaks. Thanks for watching!

Great video, were you worried about RTV getting into the oil pan and clogging the pick up tube?

@Joe Simon Mine took out the pan gasket too. I just used black sealant on it. I haven’t finished the trans yet so it’s not running. How did your pan gasket repair go? Did it hold up?

Mine has held up excellent.

Joe Simon I ended up getting nervous a about it and raised the 6.7 up, dropped the pan off and put on a whole new gasket. Good times, likely wasn’t needed but I could do it so I did.

Did you have to drain the engine oil at all to do that ?

Do you have to replace the pan gasket when doing this method or can you get away with just taking out the four bolts and putting back in?

I got everything installed on my 12v, but the oil pan bolts won't line up! I tried loosening the 6 bolts around the housing and it still won't line up

How far are you off? Maybe the aluminum piece or seal are not seated all the way down.

Joe Simon literally millimeters it looks like. Only one of the oil pan bolts will go in correctly.
