The World Health Organization has declared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to be one of the top ten health threats facing humanity.
AMR could render critical drugs including antibiotics, antivirals, fungicides and antiparasitics ineffective. It is estimated that if we lose effective antimicrobial treatments, by 2050 AMR will lead to 10 million deaths every year and cost the global economy US$100 trillion.
Presented by the Victorian Parliamentary Library together with ATSE, the seminar featured Professor Branwen Morgan, Lead, Minimising Antimicrobial Resistance Mission, CSIRO, and Dr Jack Richards, Co-founder & Scientific Director, ZiP Diagnostics and infectious diseases physician.
